On May 18, 1912 the USS Texas, also known as Battleship Texas, launched and quickly became one of the most powerful weapons in the world. It is credited with the introduction and innovation of advances in gunnery, aviation, and radar. She is the last surviving Dreadnought and the only battleship in existence today that fought in both World War I and World War II.

Texas House approves property tax bill with changes the Senate might not like

House lawmakers added a significant boost to the Senate’s proposed homestead exemption and tacked on a contentious idea to lower the state’s appraisal cap. The Texas House passed Friday a revamped version of its $16.3 billion proposal to cut property taxes — but it’s unclear whether the Senate is going to like it, and time is running out for lawmakers to act on one of their biggest priorities this year.

Back in the dark ages when I was in high school there was an unwritten rule that the young females lived by. I assume it was not written down as I never actually saw it in print. This rule was that the young girls never, under any circumstances, asked a boy for a date.

Hemphill 1SD will serve food this summer for local children. Mon.Thurs. June 5-29, July 1020. Breakfast will be from 7:30a.m. until 8:30a.m. and lunch will be from 11:30a.m. until 12:30p.m.. Meals will be served at the Cafeteria and students must come inside to receive a meal.

VFW Memorial Day Service and Patriotic Weekend

On Memorial Day May 29th, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10351 will be holding a Memorial Service in honor of all our fallen brothers and sisters. This year the VFW is pleased and honored to have one of Hemphill’s own, a 2006 graduate of Hemphill High School, US' Army Captain Bobby Woods, a medic and pilot, home for a visit after his recent deployment to Syria and Iraq.
