VFW Post 10351 Memorial Day Service...

Body
VFW Post 10351 held a Memorial Day Service in honor of all of our fallen service members who gave their last full measure of service to this great nation of ours. The Service opened with welcoming remarks by VFW Commander Curtis Buckner, followed by the Posting of the Colors by the Sabine County Honor Guard and the National Anthem/Pledge of Allegiance by Ann Densmore and Doris Tomal. The guest speaker was U.S. Army Captain Bobby Woods (a Hemphill native still actively serving after 15 years of continuous service, and has been deployed to places like Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria). Closing the ceremony was a 21 gun salute during the playing of Taps, and the retiring of the Colors, followed by refreshments. The Post flag had been placed at half mast to honor our fallen heroes, and raised to full mast at 12:00 noon to show that their sacrifices were not made in vain, as our flag proudly still waves today. (Just a side note: The 21 gun salute, usually fired in 3 volleys, originated over 100 years ago during WWI when soldiers on the opposing side would fire 3 rounds to notify the other side that they could safely retrieve their dead and wounded from the battlefield.)
