The West Sabine Tigers looked to notch their first win of the season September 4 as they battled their namesakes from up north, the Tenaha Tigers. West Sabine got off to a fast start, notching three TD’s in the first quarter to take a 20-7 lead. The Tigers would tack on two more scores in the second quarter to make it 32-7 at halftime. The third period saw two more Tiger TD’s and the fourth saw the defense get in on the scoring with a safety to make the final 48-7 West Sabine.

The Hemphill Hornet Bass Club kicked off its first tournament this past weekend, and it was a huge success. Young anglers from across the area turned out for a day of competition, excitement, and community spirit.

Hemphill Elementary is gearing up for its annual Fall Festival, and local businesses, individuals, and non-profit organizations are invited to take part by hosting a booth. The festival will be held on Friday, October 31, from 8 a.m.

The Hemphill Lady Hornets Volleyball team wrapped up their run at the Hudson Tournament with a strong finish, claiming third place in the silver bracket after a hard-fought match against Newton. The Lady Hornets battled through three sets, taking the win with scores of 20-25, 26-24, and 16-14.

Local schools have officially welcomed students back to class for a brand-new school year. Hemphill ISD began two weeks ago, while West Sabine ISD followed with their first day last week.

Sabine County and neighboring communities were well-represented at the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) State Finals, with young track and field athletes earning top finishes, personal records, and well-deserved recognition.
