Hornets douse Dragons: 50-45

Body
The Shelbyville Dragons, fresh off a season opening win over Alto, traveled to Hemphill Friday night to face the Hemphill Hornets. The Dragons, with 2:25 left in the 1st Quarter, deep in Hornet territory, and going for it on 4th down, struck first taking a 7-0 lead. Both defenses continued to hold until the Dragons scored again with 27 seconds to go in the half, extending their lead to 13-0. Facing a two-score deficit, the Hornets came out firing with a deep pass from Anthony White, picking up 45 yards to the Shelbyville 35-yard line. With 12 seconds left in the half, White scrambled up the middle to get the Hornets within striking distance with 5 seconds to go. For the second time this season Hemphill struck as time expired. On a pass to Dustin Gordon, from White, the Hornets found the endzone. White followed the touchdown with a run up the middle for the 2-point conversion, making the score 13-8. After a dominant performance by both defenses in the 1st half, both squads would do their best to break the score board in the 2nd half. Hemphill received the 2nd half kickoff and wasted no time in finding the endzone. After a return to their own 40-yard line by Trevon McDaniel, a pass to Trystan Thompson to the Dragon 38, Anthony White broke through in a sprint up the middle for a 36-yard touchdown for the first Hornet lead of the night, 1314. The Shelbyville QB answered with a couple long runs, putting the Dragons back on top 19-14. With another solid kickoff return, the Hornets drove deep into Shelbyville territory. Managing to overcome several offensive penalties, White scored on a run around the end, picking up a nice block by Teanthony Hoyle. After a failed conversion, the Hornets lead 19-20. Shelbyville answered with a 1-play td drive taking the lead back. Hemphill responded with a pitch to Trevon McDaniel for their own 1play td drive, followed by a successful 2-point conversion to Skylar Paddie, making the score 25-28. The Dragons reclaimed the lead on the following possession, 31-28. On their following drive, the Hornets lost possession on a fumble, but managed a big stop to force a Dragon punt. After a big run by Lowe, the Hornets found the endzone again with a touchdown pass from White to Evan McFarland, bringing the score to 31-34. Shelbyville answered again, and with a good PAT the score was 3834. White found Tristan Bragg for another td pass, putting the Hornets back on top 38-42. The Dragons answered quickly, reclaiming the lead 45-42. With just over 2 minutes to go, Hemphill drove deep into dragon territory, milking as much time off the clock as possible. With 34 seconds left in the game, White faked a sweep around the end, pulled up and found Tristan Bragg in the endzone to reclaim the lead, 45-50.

Tigers take on Tenaha in 2023 home opener

Body
I’m one hundred percent certain I’m not the only one who is not only ready for football weather but football itself! While the official beginning of the season was August 24, the West Sabine Tigers kicked off their 2023 season versus their namesake the Tenaha Tigers. On side note, I found out the whereabouts of a previously unseen(by me, at least)sprinkler hole and went rumblin, bumblin, and a tumblin. Still stove up as I write this Sunday night, but I’ll be fine.
