Football’s A Comin’…

Body
Yes you read that headline correctly: FOOTBALL TIME IS A COMIN’! All too soon we will be planning our weeks around Friday nights and the lights that come with them. To those outside of Texas, the love affair we have with this great game is as well nigh unbelievable as it is unexplainable. But that’s ok, we’re all cool with it. This game brings us all together as a community for a few hours a week to help us temporarily forget all the problems in the outside world. Here’s how Dave Campbell’s Texas Football sees the local districts shaking out: 11-2-AD2 1. West Sabine 2. Deweyville 3. Evadale 4. Hull-Daisetta 5. Colmesneil 6. Sabine Pass 7. West Hardin The West Sabine Tigers dropped down to 2A D2 and according to Campbell’s it means a district title, but predictions are just that: predictions. This Tiger squad will be loaded on both sides of the ball, spearheaded on offense by a backfield of ATH JaKobe Harris, RB’s Peyton Bourque, Kameron Striegel, Kevin Freeman and triggerman QB Laken Quick. The Tigers are deep at the TE position, as they have Kade Myrann, Kyle Parnell and Alex Richardson for Quick to throw to. The offensive line will be stout up front, anchored by Tristan Wilson, Ryder Clark, Stephen Morrison, Dustin Welch, Hunter Primrose and last but by far from least Ryan Estes. Estes will also anchor what should be a much stingier Tiger defense in 2024 from his LB position, another deep position for the Tigers. 11-2A-D1 1. Timpson 2. Garrison 3. Shelbyville 4. San Augustine 5. Hemphill 6. Joaquin The 2024 season begins a new era in Hemphill, as Brandon Layne takes over at HC, looking to establish a new physicality for the Hornets. UIL certainly did the Hornets no favors by putting them in arguably one of the toughest 2A districts in the state, as both defending champs Timpson and Garrison are both state ranked once again. The Hornets will be led on offense by RB Trevon McDaniel, with QB Conor McDaniel triggering a potentially explosive offense. The Hornets will have a pair of 6’4” receivers in Chadwick Price and Trystan Thomas for McDaniel to throw to. The offensive line will be physical up front, anchored by Ely Corbello and Jerell Williams. Even though Campbell’s has the Hornets just missing out on the playoffs, I feel they will be in the playoff mix right until the end.

Hemphill ISD to Continue National School Breakfast & Lunch Program

Body
The Hemphill ISD announced today it will operate the Community Eligibility Program (CEP) under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program for the 2024-2025 school year. Schools qualifying to operate CEP serve breakfast and lunch to all children at no charge and eliminate the collection of meal applications for free, reducedprice, and paid student meals. This approach reduces burdens for both families and school administrators and helps ensure that students receive nutritious meals.

Supporting Children & Youth in Foster Care During the School Year

Body
The back-to-school season can bring excitement for young people as they prepare to see their classmates again, meet new teachers and students, and explore new subjects. For youth in foster care, however, starting a new school year can feel scary and uncertain, because the odds are stacked against them when it comes to their educational success.

SHAGGIN’ GOLF BALLS

Body

Growing up in deep East Texas during the late 1940s did not allow me to learn much about the sport of golf, or “cow pasture pool” as it was known around these parts. There were no golf courses around the area and no one in my immediate family played golf, so the game was foreign to me until the year 1950. I met a man who introduced me to golf clubs and balls. He was a well-dressed gentleman who owned an insurance agency in town. His name was Bill Polley.
