Tigers Tangle With Wolves

The West Sabine Tigers stayed on the road again September 20 as they took on the San Augustine Wolves in their non-district finale. After the Tigers went three and out on their first possession the Wolves QB Renfro would find his WR Berle for the 36 yard TD strike to make it 7-0. The Tiger defense would keep it right there as it was 7-0 at the end of the first. Renfro struck again for San Augustine as he scampered 15 yards to paydirt right at the opening of the second quarter to make it 14-0. The Tigers would strike back to make it a one possession game at 14-6 as the game went to halftime.

Hemphill Bass Club at VFW

The Hemphill Hornets Bass Club, represented by Anglers Caden Wright and Derek Dobbs were present at the VFW Post 10351 monthly meeting on Monday evening to explain the values and purpose of the bass club, and to ask for sponsorship help from the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars). President of the Womens Auxiliary Post 10351 Sherry Thibodeaux was happy to present a donation of $200 to the bass club.

Tigers Take Trophy Back in 2024 Pine Cone Bowl

The Sabine County tradition known as the PineCone Bowl continued September 13 as the West Sabine Tigers renewed hostilities with the Hemphill Hornets in Hemphill. The Tigers came out guns blazing, putting up 22 in the first quarter on the strength of two TD runs from Kameron Striegel and a 41 yard pass from Laken Quick to Peyton Bourque.

Pep Rally Fun...

School is back in session and Friday featured Hemphill’s first pep rally of the season. The atmosphere was electric in the Athletic Complex as all grades were in attendance to pump the Hornets up. Hemphill traveled to Kountze Friday night for a battle against the Lions. The final was Lions 37-Hornets 20. This week Hemphill travels to Waskom.

Tigers open season with defending champs

In what was originally slated to be their home opener the West Sabine Tigers instead made the trek northward to Timpson to do battle with the 2A D1 defending champion Bears. After forcing a Tiger three and out on their first drive new Bear QB J.J. Garner took them down the field, cashing in from a yard out on fourth down to give Timpson a 7-0 lead. The next Bear possession saw Garner get loose in the Tiger secondary for a 69 yard score to make it 14-0 after one.
