Learning New Things

Body
I needed to run an errand in a neighboring town. That finished, I decided to visit the Farmer’s Market. I knew they were open that day because a friend was selling things there. Driving up, I proceeded to look for the item, I needed. I’d heard they sell raw, local honey. This kind is not available in stores. I had to find it elsewhere. But, the honey man wasn’t there, that day.

The Blow-out

Body
Back in the seventies, I had an appointment to preach a morning service at The Old Salem Baptist Church near Newton, Texas. When Amber, my youngest daughter, said she’d like to go with me, I told her that my old pickup was not air conditioned and that all my tires were treadless “maypops”. It was during one of the “leanest” days of my life and I warned Amber that it would be an exceptionally hot summer drive.

On March 2, we celebrate Texas Independence Day! On that day in 1836, a delegate from each of the 59 existing settlements in Texas signed the Texas Declaration of Independence. This document officially declared Texas’ independence from Mexico and created the Republic of Texas. The delegation met at Washington-on-the-Brazos and also organized the interim government, naming Sam Houston commander-in-chief of the republic’s military forces.

Outdoor Learning Day...

Body
West Sabine Elementary School is getting prepared for their annual Outdoor Learning Day. It is scheduled for April 21. This day requires a lot of planning, volunteers and support from our local businesses, service departments and financial supports. This year we have 8 stations for Pre-K through 2nd Grade and 12 stations for grades 3rd through 8th. Students will learn things like financial literacy, water safety, fire safety, health and human body, forestry, rivers, lakes and streams, FFA, dairy farming and so much more. Please help make this day a success for our students. This is an educational experience of a lifetime for many of our students. The Tigers have the support of the PTO and WS High School for helpers, SRA, Texas Parks and Wildlife, US and Texas Forest Services, Texas Game Wardens, BOM Bank, Southside Bank, Shelby Insurance, Sabine County Hospital, WS High School FFA, Pineland VFD, WIC, Head Start Program, Mrs. Wolford’s Science Lab, Georgia Pacific, Southwest Dairy Farmers, the WS Culinary class, as well as teachers, administrators, and other staff members to name a few that help bring this educational experience to our youth. If you would consider donating financial backing for water, food for our culinary department to cook and serve our volunteers and some supplies such as canopies to keep some shade on the stations. You may drop your donations off at the West Sabine Elementary office or you may PayPal sheetaprocell@yahoo.com. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated and will be deposited into the schools activity fund for proper distribution. Thank you in advance and have a blessed day.
