Several years ago we decided to motor up to Burlington, North Carolina, to visit our son, Doug, during the Christmas season. It is a long trip of fourteen or fifteen hours. Clara and I enjoyed several days of visiting with Doug and our grandchildren. For some reason, I decided to begin our return trip to East Texas on New Years Eve, late in the afternoon. Big mistake.

I stepped out of the car, relieved to have finally arrived. Wind hit me hard, as I struggled against it, to get my sweater on.

Cypress Bend Resort has become a Platinum Level sponsor of the 20th Annual Toledo Bend Lake Association (TBLA) Bass Unlimited – Back A Great Fighter Banquet and Auction Fund Raiser. Platinum Level Sponsors provide support to TBLA valued at $5,000 to $9,999. Randy Rolland, General Manager of Cypress Bend, commented, “TBLA has long been an active community non-profit organization that focuses on the enhancement of Toledo Bend Lake and the surrounding communities. We both recognize how important our Lake is to the economic welfare of all the surrounding areas of Louisiana and Texas. We are pleased to be a major sponsor of TBLA’s annual banquet and fund raiser.” The banquet is being held at Cypress Bend Pavilion on April 21, with more than 600 people expected to attend.

Both the Lady Tigers as well as Tiger baseball got their respective districts kicked off in Burkeville March 7. The ladies brought their hitting shoes and their boomsticks with them as they put up 17 runs on the Lady Mustangs, the majority of which came on wild pitches and errors.

Talent Show The Lions Club is hosting its annual Talent Show on March 18 at 6p.m. in the Hemphill First Baptist Family Life Center.
