I was so proud and definitely thought I was the talented one. Forty- something years later, I can still pick that Yamaha guitar out of a lineup by sound alone.

Hemphill Bass Club tournament

Fourteen teams participated in the Hemphill Hornets Bass Club tournament on Toledo Bend (sponsored by Brandon Belt Fishing) this Saturday at the Pendleton Bridge ramp. Taking 1st place was Kane Ross and Caden Wight with 13.1 lbs., anchored by the Big Bass weighing 7.76 lbs. caught by Caden Wright. (Kane also won the flipping contest). 2nd place was Jake Drennan with 6.70 lbs., 3rd place was Brentley Elliott and Derek Dobbs with 5.84 lbs.,4th place was Bryson & Braeden Jordon with 3.57 lbs., 5th place was Marriah Rodriquez with 3.56 lbs., 6th place was Conor McDaniel & Sam Welch with 2.863 lbs., 7th place was Hudson Shoemaker & Lake McDaniel with 2.72 lbs., 8th place was Blake Brittain & Aiden Spears with 2.34 lbs., 9th place was Lawson Garrett & Archer Chase with 1.61 lbs., and 10th place was Ethan Webb & Tyler Jurek with 1.38 lbs. Congratulations to all of the young anglers of the Hemphill Bass Club!

Established in 1972, the Pineland City Park has hosted countless community events, family gatherings, and daily recreational activities for local residents. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Pineland Service Club, the park has seen several renovations over the years, including the recent addition of a community stage. To help preserve and enhance this popular local destination while supporting the nonprofit organizations funded by the Service Club, Georgia-Pacific recently donated $10,000 to the Pineland Service Club. The Toledo Bend Dutch Oven Cookers will be having our March DOG (Dutch Oven Gathering) on Saturday November 16th starting around 9:30 AM at Boles Field outside of Shelbyville. We meet on the third Saturday eight times a year. The public is invited to attend, watch, and learn. If interested to also join. Bring your lawn chairs. If you would like to eat with us we do accept a $5.00 min. donation per person, and you can also bring a covered dish to help out with the food. Come join the fun. After hearing the facts of the case, he found Kevin Garrett Guilty and Sentenced him to 40 Years TDCJID, $10,000 Fine, $550 Attorney Fee for the original offense of First-Degree Delivery of Controlled Substance, and 20 Years TDCJID, $10,000 Fine, $275 Attorney Fee for Second-Degree Felony offense of Delivery of Controlled Substance. He was taken into custody by the San Augustine County Sheriff's Office.

Veterans Day at HISD

Hemphill High School hosted a 2024 Veterans Day Program in the boy's gym in honor of all veterans. Pictured above are many of the Sabine County veterans. Hemphill Middle School Patriot Club served as Color Guard posting and retiring of the colors, and the National Anthem was performed by Luke Moody. Stormi Craig offered the opening prayer and Connor Fenley gave the History of Veterans Day. The Fourth-Grade music class sang several patriotic songs before Veteran's Day Poems were recited by Rayden Gates and Karter Garza. Tuff White recited her Patriot Pen Essay and Letty Merritt recited her Voice of Democracy Essay. The VFW is celebrating 125 years and presented all 3 HISD Principles with a plaque of recognition.
