HPD Police unit caught fire...

Body
Hemphill Police Officer Michael Pressley was just returning from a call and had made a quick stop at the Valero station in Hemphill when store patrons alerted him that his police unit was on fire. Officer Pressley was able to retrieve the City computer from the vehicle. The fire was contained to the engine compartment but the entire vehicle looks to be a total loss. This vehicle has been plagued with a multitude of maintenance issues almost from the time it was first put into service, and was actually slated to be taken out of service as soon as the new vehicle already ordered arrived. The new vehicle is arriving this week and after it is outfitted with the lights, sirens and decals, it will be put into service. Had the fire happened while being driven by Officer Pressley, a totally different outcome would have been possible. Thankfully, Officer Pressley was not injured.

A YANKEE DIME

Body
As a young lad I can recall my mother saying to me, “Neal, I will give you a Yankee dime if you will take out the trash for me”. I never did get a “Yankee dime” that I can recall because I did not know what a Yankee dime was. I vaguely remember it, in my young mind, to be a kiss on the cheek. So, what message does this saying really mean? A little research revealed the following: The term “Yankee” has been used to describe Americans since the 18th century, particularly those from New England. The word “dime” refers to a ten-cent coin in American currency. Put together, the phrase was coined as a way to describe something small or insignificant.
