The Hornets took the field at the beginning of the third quarter, bound a determined to turn around a rocky first half. That’s just what they did, scoring three times in under eight minutes. The fourth quarter continued to keep the crowd on the edge of their seats right up until the very end. With less than two minutes on the clock, the defense shut New Waverly down and scored to end the game 42-35. Mascot maybe...

Body
Meet the new Martin’s Corner mascot, Bambi! As I was delivering newspapers to Martin’s Corner Tuesday, this little fella greeted me as I was leaving the store. Seems he just showed up and has taken up residence, and wants to meet everyone who shows up. I bet taking the kiddos for a burger and fries (and to meet this little fella) would be a great treat for the whole family!

Tigers win against Grapeland

Body
The West Sabine Tigers looked to bounce back from a disappointing district opening loss to Garrison September 23 in Grapeland September 30. They found themselves in an early hole as the Sandies would cash in their opening possession as Trey Gilmore went in for the score to draw first blood at 6-0. The Tigers would methodically drive on their first possession chewing up most of the quarter as Jakorian Walker cashed in from six yards away. Blaine Bourque’s conversion run made it 8-6 Tigers after one. Neither squad could do much against the other’s defense for most of the second period until West Sabine’s last possession of the half. Bourque would strike paydirt for the Tigers as he blasted his way in from three yards out to make it 14-6 Tigers at the half.
