The 2023 home schedule kicked off for both West Sabine squads on January 6 versus longtime rival San Augustine. The ladies hit the court first, and both squads started off ice cold from the field as San Augustine would lead 5-4 after one and 12-8 at halftime.

Without a doubt the Hornets are impressive on offense, but their defense kept Central out of reach most of the game. .

Cushing had no answer for Landon Smith (#11), as he penetrated the defense at will in the second half Down by 8 points halfway through the 2nd quarter, by a score of 32-27 at halftime, Brookelands Wildcats looked to be in a cat fight with the Bearkats from Cushing. As it turned out, they were just getting warmed up.

Skylar Strother (#3) adds two of her ten points in Fridays 63-51 win over the Cushing Lady Bearkats, bringing their record to 16-4 overall, 3-0 in District play. Lexi Hall added 11 points, Cierra Justice had 12, and Taylar Strother had 13 to top a very balanced offensive effort. Overlooked by the scoring output, the Lady Cats defense was, once again, very impressive in shutting down the Bearkats offense whenever they seemed to develop an offensive rhythm. The Lady Cats continue District play when the host Burkeville Friday evening before travelling to Chester on the 10th.

The West Sabine Tigers closed out the calendar year of 2022 by playing host to Woden on December 30. The Lady Tigers hit the court first and were cold from the floor in the first period, falling behind 10-3.
