Hornets warm up for district in tourney

Hemphill Hornet baseball took on Frankston on Thursday to begin the Douglass Tournament. Starting pitcher for the game was Braeden Jordan. At the end of the first the score was tied. Scorers for the first were Kameron Arrington and Jackson Mitchell. They were both assisted by Bo Conn with a great hit allowing them to score. In the second, Connor McDaniel made a run. Allowing the Hornets to now have 3 points. In the fourth, the Hornets were down by 4 but never gave up the fight. In the 5th, the Hornets game out with the desire to win. Skylar Paddie was the first to score with a steal to home. Jackson Mitchell and Bo Conn were both allowed to score with the assistance of Remington Ross with a phenomenal hit. Ross was allowed to score off of a hit from McDaniel. McDaniel then scored thanks to a RBI by Tayvion Williams. This brings the score to Hemphill: 8 Frankston: 7.

Operation Pork Chop Winners...

Jordan Ebarb won the drawing for week one (February 13th- 19th) of Operation Pork Chop. Jordan is the winner $100 cash donation from Chief Surveying, LLC of Hemphill and $100 cash donation from Hammock Furniture of Hemphill. Carl Beall Jr. won the drawing for week two (February 20th- 26th) of Operation Pork Chop. Carl is the winner of $100 cash prize from G.D. Edgar Lumber Company of Hemphill and $100 cash prize from BOM Bank of Hemphill. Congratulations to both of these gentleman on ridding Sabine County of a few extra hogs, and winning week one and two of the competition.

Wildcats and Pirates in a classic

The Brookeland Wildcats made the trek northward to Lufkin February 27 to do battle with the Martinsville Pirates with a berth to the regional tournament on the line. Both teams were equally matched, both having won 28 games heading into the contest. Both squads felt each other out in the first quarter and Martinsville held a 16-14 lead after one. The Pirates tightened up the defense int the second quarter as the Cats only put 10 points on the board while Martinsville extended their lead to 33-24 on a driving layup at the buzzer.
