CAMP SAN AUGUSTINE

Most of us older folk remember when San Augustine was the home of a German prisoner of war camp. This camp was hastily built in the spring of 1944 on the site that was the fair grounds for many years. The site is now the location of the Rodeo grounds and high school football practice field on state highway 147, just north of the high school.

Why do some believers move from death to life, darkness to light, chaos to order and depression to joy while other believers seem to continue in the misery of chronic failure and lives filled with drama and lack? Have not all believers been made new creations? Are we not all filled with the very presence and nature of God? Why are the results so different? Does God love some more than others, or does He treat some better than others?

Exodus was the beginning of my Bible reading for the day. It contains lots of interesting stories. But, when I got to 16:15 I slowed down and was stopped by the giving of “manna.” This has always been interesting, to me. So, I decided to do a study on it.

Pineland Service Club...

Taylor Sharp, a State 4-H council member, was a special guest at Pineland Service Club's last monthly meeting. Taylor, 17, is a San Augustine County resident and she is the first youth from the Sabine/San Augustine County area to be elected to this prestigious position. The selection was made by her 4-H peers across the state. She discussed state 4-H duties and activities with those present for the meeting. Pictured with Taylor is T.A. Lane, president of Pineland Service Club. Pineland Service Club's next meeting is slated for 6:00 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2025, at the cafetorium of West Sabine High School. The special guest will be Kaylee McDaniel, administrator of Sabine County Hospital. McDaniel will be discussing the upcoming 45th anniversary of Sabine County Hospital, which opened May 1, 1980. She will also be sharing updated information about the hospital's care expansion in Pineland with the opening of West Sabine Community Clinic last year.

On March 6, 1836, the Alamo fell to the Mexican army after thirteen days under siege. General Santa Anna launched an early morning assault on the mission; the battle lasted 90 minutes. All defenders of the Alamo were killed in the battle. The slogan “Remember the Alamo!” became a rallying cry for the Texas Revolution, which successfully defeated the Mexican army at the Battle of San Jacinto weeks later.
