Commissioners Court recognizes County 4 H Students

Commisonners court opened with prayer and the pledge of allegiance. Channelle Svehla presented five of her championship competitors from 4 H and the County Show. Sabine County had twenty-six entered into competition and won seven Grand Champions. Rider, Matthew Watson, Charles Watson, Lori Watson, and Kasen Beall were recognized for their success in animal husbandry, production of arts and crafts, and baking. The court expressed its appreciation of the efforts of Svehla. She is a tremedous asset to the community, which can easily be seen in the increase of participation and the success of these individuals. Not to mention Sabine County Master Gardners, Archery and other activites that the extension agent is leading out in.

CHEETOS AND 42

Both my parents and paternal grandparents were avid 42 players, and I was introduced to this domino game at an early age. I began my 42 career around age eight or nine - they waited until I learned to count and cipher.

Thank You from the Youth at the Refuge...

Friday was an amazing experience for the Youth at the Refuge. They were able to set up at Pic-A Home and raise money for youth camp with their BBQ Sandwich plates. They had a great pre order and turnout and sold out by 12:15 p.m. The youth would like to give a special shout out to Brandi Miller, Russell Whipkey, Bryan and Tara Walters and Randy Fuller.

This week the Texas Senate welcomed DJ Daniel to the chamber. DJ is a 13 year old from the Houston area who is battling terminal brain and spine cancer. His dream is to become a police officer and he has set a goal to be sworn in by 1,000 law enforcement agencies across the country, which would be a record. This week, he moved one step closer to that goal when he was sworn into as an officer with the Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Community Builder Award...

On Thursday April 3rd, 2025 Dr. Thomas L. Rach, DVM received the Community Builder Award from Walter Jones, Master of the Littleton-Fowler Masonic Lodge #305, Hemphill, Texas. The Community Builder Award was designed by the Grand lodge of Texas to enable Masonic Lodges to recognize outstanding non-Masons who have distinguished themselves through their service to the community, government, church or synagogue, or to humanity. It seeks out those men and women who year in and out quietly and without fanfare show devotion to their community and its people without expectation of recognition. Dr. Rach has been serving the community of Hemphill, Sabine County and beyond for over four decades. He is one of our community’s most precious assets, universally respected and deeply loved by his family, friends, clients and their animals. His compassion for people and their animals knows no bounds. Little-Fowler Masonic lodge meets every second Tuesday at 7:00pm at 206 S. Oak St., Hemphill, TX.
