Sabine County 4-H is GROWING

Body
Sabine County 4-H had 25 entries in the Sabine County Junior Livestock Show, which is more than double what the organization had the year prior. You have the Grand and Reserve winners, but I wanted to highlight those that won Showmanship, as well. They are as follows: Corbyn Beall Junior Rabbit Showmanship Winner Cason Beall Intermediate Rabbit Showmanship Winner Jake Pay Steer Showmanship Winner There was a speaking portion added to the food division this year and I thought every kid, no matter the program, handled the change well and rose up to the challenge. I was also proud that 4-H broadened the scope of our entries beyond food and animal divisions. We had two enter public speaking, one entered a nicely tooled leather belt into the sewing division, one in art, and two in photography. Chanelle Svehla Ag Extension Agent, SC

When the explorer Bonplau, also a botanist, climbed one of the highest peaks of the Andes, he found it to be a volcano. The rim of the crater was covered with scoriae, and everything that looked like blasting and desolation, but just in one little crevice he found a tiny bright flower.

City Hall’s Lengthy Budget Workshop Meeting Recap

Body
After opening prayers and the Pledge of Allegiance, on Tuesday May 6th the City Hall meeting moved into a two-hour budget workshop that gave council members and attendees a clearer look at the city’s financial priorities. While no decisions were finalized, the discussions offered insight into how funds may be allocated in the future. Topics ranged from payroll and equipment estimates to utility fees and long-term maintenance needs. The conversation underscored how investments in both new equipment and upkeep of existing assets play a vital role in keeping city services running smoothly and supporting the well-being of the community.

Court Approves Funding for Pineland Airport Rehabilitation Project

Body
Commisioners court opened with a prayer and a pledge, led by County Judge Daryl Melton. Melton then asked for motions to approve the minutes and they were passed. There were no lineitem transfers to discuss and there were no budget amendments at this time, but they were left open for next month.
