West Sabine High School proudly recognizes the outstanding individuals as this year’s 6 Tigers That Make a Difference—six students and their mentors whose influence extends far beyond the classroom.

The state legislature will adjourn on Tuesday as we reach the 140th day of the legislative session, or Sine Die, which means “without days.” It has been a productive session and I am honored to have once again had the opportunity to represent east and southeast Texas in the Texas Senate!

A good night’s sleep is something every child deserves---and a local nonprofit organization along with Georgia-Pacific, are making that possible, one bed at a time. Sleep in Heavenly Peace is dedicated to building and delivering beds to children who don’t have one of their own. Thanks to the financial support of local businesses— including Georgia-Pacific’s Pineland Lumber—this mission is becoming a reality through a strong community effort.

The spirit of summer was alive and well during Patriotic Weekend on the courthouse lawn, as families and friends gathered to celebrate with a full day of small-town charm and community pride. Live music set the tone, with familiar faces from Hemphill Little Theatre’s Honky Tonk Angels taking the “stage” and delivering toe-tapping tunes.

The Brookeland Lady Wildcats made history by advancing to their first ever state championship game with an 11-0 victory over Leakey at Weimar HS May 24. .
