The house that I grew up in was surrounded by six or seven large cedar trees. I never paid them much attention during my early days, except that they smelled good and my dad was allergic to them.

Reality does not always match up with fantasy. My fantasy, once I finally sold my first novel, was that I would print my book in hard copy (which I never do) and carry it out of my office and go somewhere with it— maybe a coffee shop! I would sit at a table in a coffee shop and read my manuscript on real paper with a red pen in hand and review it with care, while sipping my coffee, thoughtfully editing a chapter or two a day until I was confident that everything was to my complete satisfaction.

When a pet doesn’t seem like itself — maybe it’s limping, behaving oddly or seems to just not feel right — getting answers quickly and accurately can make all the difference. However, some issues are hidden deep inside the body, beyond the reach of a physical exam or basic Xray.

Session is coming to a close and, as it does, critical deadlines have to be met for legislation to pass. Those deadlines fall throughout the next week and if bills do not pass those benchmarks, they won’t become law this session. It’s a sprint to the finish, but we’re almost there!

The Pendleton Harbor Volunteer Fire Department received nine new sets of bunker gear!! We would like to thank Texas Forest Service for the 2604 grant! Thanks also to Delta Fire Industries and the community’s donations for making this all possible!

On Tuesday, May 20th, the Hemphill City Council meeting opened promptly at 5:30pm with an opening prayer and the pledges to the flags. City Secretary Kelli Beall welcomed attendees and read the City Council Speaker Policy, inviting comments from citizens.

On Thursday, May 1, Kalo Axsom ran 56 miles of the Trail Between the Lakes to commemorate 5 years of ultra running and sobriety. Originally from Natchitoches, Louisiana, Kalo’s ultra running training started in 2020 lockdown, and continued after he moved to Florida.
