Historic Steam Locomotive & Pineland Depot Find New Home

A remarkable piece of East Texas history is on the move. The newly formed nonprofit Southern Pine Locomotive Company (SPL Company) has announced its acquisition of a 1930 B a l dwi n - Mi k a d o steam locomotive, Temple Lumber Company No. 20, along with the historic Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe (A.T.&S.F.)

The Sabine County Reporter has been authorized to announce the candidacies of the below named persons for the offices named subject to action in the March 3, 2026 Primary elections. The announcement fee (which must be paid in advance) includes a statement and photograph to run one time. Fees are $200. The name on the calendar runs each week until the election.

(Hemphill, Texas) On October 10, 2025 shortly after 7:30 am someone reported hearing a gunshot at Hemphill ISD in the 1000 block of Milam Street. Hemphill ISD School District Police contacted Hemphill Police Department and Sabine County Sheriff’s Office requesting assistance in checking the area. Hemphill Police Department and Sabine County Sheriff’s Office dispatched additional units to the area and no nefarious or otherwise criminal activity was noted. Units returned to service.
