On October 2, 1835, fighting began between Mexican soldiers and the Texas militia at Gonzales, officially starting the Texas Revolution. American colonist at Gonzales had refused a request by the Mexican government to surrender a small cannon that had been given to the settlement years earlier to defend against Indian raids. When the settlers declined the request, Mexican soldiers were dispatched to retrieve it. The iconic “Come and Take it” flag was raised above the cannon during the battle, and the moniker was adopted by the Texian rebels.

Galactic Gala Success...

What an amazing evening of “out of this world” fun to support the ‘Remembering Columbia’ Museum! A packed house at the Hemphill VFW, a delicious dinner, incredible silent auction items, live music and dancing, and table decorating competition. Our keynote speaker, Space historian and journalist shared some amazing stories and even brought a moon rock! We are so grateful for your support. Save the date — next year’s gala is Saturday, September 26, 2026.

Horton Completes Basic Training...

Tristan Warner Horton has proudly completed his Basic Military Training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. Following graduation, Horton also finished the Basic Defender Course, where he earned the rank of Airman First Class (A1C). Both courses were conducted through the United States Air Force Training School at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

The Sabine County Reporter has been authorized to announce the candidacies of the below named persons for the offices named subject to action in the March 3, 2026 Primary elections. The announcement fee (which must be paid in advance) includes a statement and photograph to run one time. Fees are $200. The name on the calendar runs each week until the election.

What a wonderful season of support from Sabine County and surrounding areas for this year’s Pineland Day. Kenzy Bragg was crowned as Miss Pineland Day and full details on all the activites and community awards will be in next week’s edition of The Reporter.
