The amount of power required to lift off in order to put our astronauts into orbit boggles the mind. The power of the hydrogen bomb, with the capacity to wipe out half of a small nation, is awesome. And, that same nuclear power can be harnessed to generate electricity for thousands of homes and businesses. The power of an electric generating station can provide power to millions of people.

Prayer of the Week

Body
My Father in Heaven, the Great Almighty, yours is the kingdom and the power and glory. You are enough for me. I hand over my prayers and my needs to you, O Lord, for you are enough. You are great and powerful and can do all things, so I will have faith and trust in your way and your timing.

Let them be little

Body
On a trip to Target in League City, I watched a woman deep in conversation with a baby in her arms. She was describing each dress as she held it up for the infant to observe. “Now, this dress is very bright and colorful, but I really like the first dress we looked at better. What do you think?” I smiled and walked on down the aisle. Later, I wished I had approached and commended the woman on her conversation with the child. She was providing a strong language base filled with vocabulary and grammar and the give and take of conversing with another. Talk, talk, talk.

County Agent’s Report

Body
We are almost through with the month of June and these summer temperatures are already proving to be relentless. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, Sabine County is currently considered abnormally dry, which is one step below moderate drought. We know what these temperatures and lack of rain can do to our electric bills, but to what extent does it have an effect on the trees in your yard?

Democratic party meeting...

Body
The Sabine County Democratic Party held it’s monthly meeting last Thursday evening in Pineland and introduced three new members. Pictured above (L – R) are Otis Watts, Chris Reynolds, and Belinda Reynolds. The SCDP helped with the Community United Juneteenth celebration last week and was also successful in getting several people registered to vote. SCDP President Sarah Dumas challenged members for fresh ideas on how to positively embrace and spread the positive aspects of the democratic party to voters, as well as how to make local changes to any possible negative democratic party aspects that may have left voters feeling abandoned. Great excitement was shared about the upcoming Beto O’Rourke rally to be held in Hemphill, Texas at the Hemphill Senior Center on July 30, 2022. Plans and ideas will be discussed at their next meeting on July 21, at 317 Dogwood Street in Pineland, Texas. Reporter photo by Kenny Wick
