Controversy, drama, and drastic events, that’s what we usually are force fed by the big name media, and to a lesser extent, by our local news channels. After all, controversy sells. Just look at the reality tv trash that has taken over the prime time hours.

Mr. Joe Singleton stopped by the office on Monday to express his gratitude to all that have checked on him, prayed for him and cared for him since his time in Legacies and home recovery. “Everyone has been so kind and it means so much to me. My church home, Thomas Johnson Church of Christ and the pastor and family at The Refuge Church in Miliam, thank you for your prayers and help. I am back and feeling good. And I MADE IT TO 85!” Mr. Joe definitely brightens up any day and we celebrated his birthday with an old-fashioned banana pudding - complete with meringue! I imagine my friend Red spent some time dancing on air up in Gloryland this weekend. Saturday morning, at 11 a.m. his remains were inurned with high honors at Arlington National Cemetery. For a serviceman in the United Sates Armed Forces, being laid to rest there, with so many of your brothers and sisters in arms, is a crowning acheivement for a blessed life of service.

The regular meeting of Hemphill City Council on June 21, opened with prayer and pledges of allegiance, followed by approval of consent agenda which included prior meetings minutes, accounts payable check register, gas power cost adjustment of $0.578 per ccf, and electric power cost adjustment of $0.04778 per kwh.

The Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade in a landmark abortion ruling released Friday, eliminating the constitutional right to an abortion and letting states decide on the issue.
