Prepping and frying up fish for the Fish Fry Benefit for Jimmy T. Duffey on Saturday, July 9, held at the Pineland Fire Hall, was Robert Byley, Jim Crow, and Chris Reynolds, of the Bronson VFD. Cathy Nesbit, Sina Taylor, and Rebecca Felts harvesting grapes at Pineywoods Vineyard on Saturday, while they are at their peak! Growing wine making grapes, and picking them at the right time, is a science nowadays. Picking started early, and there was lots of help on hand, to try to beat the relentless heat. James William (Bill) Haley was born in Center, Texas, September 22, 1943, and died July 3, 2022, in Austin. Bill attended public schools in Center through his high school education. Following high school graduation, he completed a bachelor’s degree at his beloved Texas Christian University (TCU) and his teaching certification at Stephen F. Austin State University; he later earned an M.A. from Texas State University. Bill taught in public schools in Houston and Center for more than a dozen years before being elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1978.

A regular meeting of the Commissioners Court of Sabine County was held Friday, July 8th. After opening the meeting with the prayer, and pledge of allegiance, minutes of the prior meeting were accepted, followed by accepting a resolution authorizing the submission of a 2022 Texas Community Development bock Grant for Rural Economic Development (RED) Fund (CRP22-0117) by the Texas Department of Agriculture application for Sabine County, as well as a Citizen Participation Plan for Sabine County regarding this same grant.

Twin Cedars and Holly Bay subdivisions held their annual golf cart parade and firework display. The whole subdivision joins in for this event and at the end of the parade they sit down for a dinner together and enjoy each others company. This year you could come into the cove from the water and see numerous adults and young children taking part in a swim and playing with sparklers.

Take a rain washed summer evening, provide free fish, fries, banana pudding, and watermelon, now try to make it better. Add fireworks, of course. Six Mile Marina not only fed the crowd, but provided them front row, waterfront seats to their annual 4th of July fireworks show. The SRA gets an assist for their work on both ends of the bridge making viewing the show more accessible for viewing by more people. Not only did the marina draw a good crowd, but both boat ramp parking lots were full.

Adam Ledger Band(1) topped off an epic weekend with for everyone at Lost Frontier. It was full of (2) family-fun activities, (3) pool time, a band at the end of the night and fireworks. If you weren’t able to make it to this event you truly missed out. Owners plan to do lots more fun activities that are family-oriented so stay tuned.

Holly Park had their annual fourth of july festivities. You can see the fireworks from miles away and numerous community members and neighbors showed up to watch in person as they have done for years. It’s a must see for any Milam patriot.
