6 Mile VFD chief (Ret.) introduces new chief ...

Body
Prior to the annual 6 Mile VFD 4th of July fireworks display, long time Chief Lonnie Johnston introduced the new 6 Mile VFD Chief to the crowd. Jeff Wheatley has been a full time Sabine County resident and 6 Mile VFD member since 2020. He has extensive first responder and fire fighting training and experience from his career with Invista in Orange. Since joining 6 Mile, Wheatley has completed the training course and received his Emergency Medical Responder certification, and will be encouraging all interested volunteers to do the same. He acknowledges and understands the differences in responding to emergencies in a chemical plant and the emergencies that rural volunteers face. Chief Johnston, a 6 Mile fixture since 2005, stated that at 78 years old it is time to pass the torch to the younger volunteers, although he will continue to contribute in any way possible. He may be stepping down from the Chief position, but he will still hold the office of VFD President. Reporter photo by Bill Dodson

A glimmer of hope, maybe?

Body
Baby steps. Little, tiny, baby steps. Bit by bit, our local gas prices are coming down, the question remains if the drop will continue, or bounce upward? For the average Sabine County resident, pumping gas at $4.67 a gallon doesn’t seem like good news, but it could definitely be worse. We could be paying $6.50, along with having to deal with the cost of living in New Jersey, or California, or Florida.
