CHILDREN CAR SEATS SAVE LIVES

Body
AUSTIN – Vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death among children in the nation, so the Texas Department of Transportation is reminding parents that one of the most important things they can do to protect children is to properly install and use a car seat. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) states that 46% of all child car seats are misused. TxDOT’s “Save Me With a Seat” campaign kicks off in September to coincide with National Child Passenger Safety Week, Sept. 18–Sept. 24, 2022. The campaign invites parents to schedule a free car seat safety check by visiting SaveMeWithASeat.org and entering their ZIP code to find the nearest TxDOT Traffic Safety Specialist in their area. TxDOT offers free car seat safety checks year-round.

Renewing the Spirit of the Constitution

Body
It is often said that when Benjamin Franklin exited the Constitutional Convention on September 17th, 1787, a woman in the crowd shouted, “Doctor, what have we got? A republic or a monarchy?” The witty Franklin quickly retorted, “A republic, if you can keep it.” It has been two hundred and thirty-five years since this exchange, and the US Constitution now stands as the oldest codified constitution in the world. The great experiment has brought the nation an abundance of blessings and has endured a sea of tribulations. The Constitution isn’t perfectby nothing is that is made by human hands- but we should be filled with gratitude to have it.

Historic jail work...

Body
Pictured above in the man-lift basket are Robert Burns and Leah Brockman of Chance Construction replacing gutters and any rotten or damaged wood. Later, the roof will be repainted. Re-opening date for visitor tours is yet unknown but I was allowed to take a “construction walk through” tour. It was both amazing and eerie to see the hanging room area, as well as all the cells and offices with all the old memmoribellia. If only those walls could talk! We will keep you updated as to when construction if finished and the tours resume because this is a Sabine County piece of history you just have to go see.
