Speak Easy now open in Hemphill

Body

Atmosphere. That’s the word that continues to come to mind when describing the new speak easy joint in town. This prohibition throw back has it in bucketloads. Friday afternoon they opened to a great reception from patrons and a full house, despite the Pine Cone Bowl being the hottest ticket in town. Pool tables, tvs, board games and a Tuesday night poker game are sure to be big draws for Sabine County.

RGB Bingo held...

Body

Rosevine Gravel Hill Benefit held their first Bingo Sat. night and it was a great turn out and we all had a great time if I do say so myself. This group of hard-working individuals stayed jumping all evening and seemed to raise a good bit for their benefit coming up Oct. 14 and 15. If you have never been to the BBQ and Concert, then I highly encourage you go and  have a good time.

Junior Zookeeper...

Body
Carlee Procella completed the Ellen Trout Junior Zookeeper program this summer. Here is a brief look at her experience in her own words. “My responsibilities the first week were go let hippos out into there inclosure; then usually we would wash dishes after check in on some other animals then make their food for the night. I was very impressed at the high quality of food the animals are fed. Many zoos get a bad name but Ellen Trout works hard to take good care of their animals. One day someone donated lots of watermelons and the animals had a blast. I would say those responsibilites also turned into my favorite parts, especially the hippos. I was amazed at how gentle they were and how close we were able to be with them. I was able to paint with one and that’s a memory I will cherish. Mostly I learned about the care and diet of the mammals. I also learned there are many steps to running a zoo and getting different animals from other zoos. We also learned about the vet responsibilities and how to safely move animals around. My future plans include continuing to work with animals at many levels including Junior Zookeeper. I plan to grow up and become a veterinarian and practice in Hemphill. I will do big and large animals. I would encourage anyone that enjoys learning about animals to check into the junior zookeeper program. The zoo has programs that start from 3 years old- the Zoo Tots and works all the way up through college. If you don’t mind hard work and learning about animals, it’s a great experience.” For more photos check out sabinecountyreporter.com

Retirement for Ms. Dawn...

Body
On August 31, 2022 Dawn Procell or as her favorite little friends call her Ms. Dawn worked her last day at HISD as Elementary piems/registrar.That title doesn’t begin to encompass all she did for her little Hornets. She began with the district 25 years ago as a custodian, then worked in withspecial education before going to work in the office. On Friday some of her favorite friends and family held her a small retirement party at Tebo Creek Winery with a nacho bar to show just how much they loved and would miss her at work. As we sat there more and more people kept showing up and she would greet them with the warmest hugs and thank them for their kind words. Dawn’s future plans are to spend some quality with her grand baby and work part time for Hammock Furniture with her dear friends Kirk and Monica Butler.
