Free archaeology day at Mission Dolores

Body
Join us on Saturday, Oct. 1, at Mission Dolores State Historic Site for this free event as we celebrate Texas Archaeology Month with an archaeology program that will include an introduction to archaeology along with a “show and tell” of artifacts found here at Mission Dolores led by Dr. George Avery of Stephen F. Austin State University. Dr. Avery’s presentation will be followed with a surface-finds demonstration where you can help us map and record and discuss items found right on top of the ground within our search grids and learn why it is important to leave artifacts in place when they are found.

Allergies and sunsets

Body
A cool, crisp evening, invited me to sit, on my front porch and enjoy it. I do love my evenings, there. As I sat in my swing, I thought about the kitty. When I had sat out here before, she had been so friendly. Wanting in my lap, in my house, all over the swing, throw pillows and glider. Evidently, she was someone’s pet. I don’t know this. But, I suspect that someone had thrown her out. Being in the country, causes some people to think all “throw outs” are welcomed. That they will be taken in and loved. Unfortunately, I am allergic to cats. Otherwise, I might have been tempted to keep this one. She was very pretty and sweet. Nevertheless, she would make me sick.

The Refuge: A Place for New Hope

Body
One side effect of living in a fallen world, we close ourselves off, building barriers around our hearts souls. Most of the time it is a protection mechanism of the flesh, but those walls often keep Jesus on the outside too. It’s hard to have a soul that magnifies the Lord and prospers if it’s closed off to the very One that provides and heals. We are told to open the gates in Psalm 24:7, “Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.” Isaiah 26:2-3, “Open the gates, that the righteous nation which keeps the truth may enter in. You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” If you want the King of Glory and truth and righteousness to come in and prosper your soul, swing those gates open! This is the very secret to success. Keep your head up, your eyes on Him and open your soul to trusting him. Meditate on the Lord. Fix your mind on Him.

Let them be Little

Body
Once Upon A Time… When was the last time you told your child or grandchild a story? Maybe, you told the fairytale, The Three Bears or Sleeping Beauty. Or maybe, you told the story of the day they came home from the hospital. Everyone loves stories about themselves, especially children.

We Have To Wait One More Year...

Body
Between Covid and insurance companies, one of the most anticipated Halloween events to hit Sabine County has been missing since 2019. Event organizer Angela Henderson states that there were several reason behind the cancellation, one of them being that Boo Bash would have been scheduled on the same night as Trunk or Treat on the Square. That scheduling conflict would not have been in the best interest of the kids of Sabine County and the surrounding area, or the two events. Henderson is hoping that everyone who would have attended Boo Bash will take the time to support Trunk or Treat. Just wait until next year! Her plans are to work with Trunk or Treat to combine the two events into one large Halloween get together that will be the pride of Sabine County. Already looking forward to 2023, Henderson is asking for anyone with suggestions, ideas, or a willingness to volunteer to contact her at 936-201-5593.

What You Need to Know About ESG... Part 2

Body
China’s social credit system (SCS) originated at the turn of the 21st Century. It was quickly promoted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), which saw the idea as a noteworthy program for market reform. The primary goal was to open the Chinese markets to foreign nations by providing international firms with investment transparency. The program’s development was largely built upon digital tracking and electronic data. China’s “2014 Plan” officially proposed a nationwide “social credit system” that would monitor every person and enterprise. The system was specifically designed to reward behaviors deemed beneficial to the public trust and to conversely punish detrimental behaviors.
