VFW makes donation...

Body
Pictured above (L – R) are Christen Johnson, Todd Franklin, Carol Wall, Jim Waller, Dianne Burns, Curtis Buckner, and Phyllis Buckner as the VFW Post 10351 presented a $500 check to the Hemphill Senior Center to help with meals provided there. Prior to the check presentation, Curtis Buckner (VFW Commander) gave a speech in remembrance of Victory in Japan (V-J Day) day, the day on which Imperial Japan surrendered in World War II, in effect bringing the war to an end. The term V-J Day has been applied to both of the days on which the initial announcement of Japan’s surrender was made - 15 August 1945 in Japan, and because of the time zone differences, 14 August 1945 (when it was announced in the United States and the rest of the Americas and Eastern Pacific Islands – as well as to 2 September 1945 when the surrender document was signed, officially ending World War II, onboard the battleship USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay.

Mascot maybe...

Body
Meet the new Martin’s Corner mascot, Bambi! As I was delivering newspapers to Martin’s Corner Tuesday, this little fella greeted me as I was leaving the store. Seems he just showed up and has taken up residence, and wants to meet everyone who shows up. I bet taking the kiddos for a burger and fries (and to meet this little fella) would be a great treat for the whole family!
