What could be more romantic than getting married in Montanas’ Glacier National Park? Family and friends gathered on the bank of a clear mountain lake, the fresh air, the scenery, the sights and sounds of a grizzley bear killing a moose in the background…what? Yes, captured on filmby Videographer Stanton Giles, the wedding was temporarily interrupted while the bear dispatched his lunch before taking it “to go”, disappearing into the forrest.

What do you mean Christmas is banned?

Body
No, Christmas is NOT banned…but it once was. You heard that right, the “War on Christmas” some people go on about is nothing compared to the real one. According to “Once Upon A Gospel”, (Twenty-Third Publications, 2008), in 1644 Englands Puritan-dominated Parliament passed laws making it illegal to observe Christmas, believing it was an insult to God. Any Christmas related activity was illegal, including caroling, dancing, plays, games, and drinking. And, even though the settlers of the New World broke from England to start a new life, the Puritan ethic made the trip with them, with Christmas being outlawed in Boston and other locations under Puritan influence. Businesses were required to remain open, schools were in session, and town criers made their rounds reminding everyone of “No Christmas!” Even foods associated with traditional Christmas, such as mince pies and puddings, were forbidden. The ban remained until 1660 when King Charles II took over, but Christmas did not become a legal holiday in England until 1856, and 1870 in America.

Tis the reason for the season and no float in the Pineland Christmas Parade Thursday night said it better than the Bethel Chapel float driven by Santa himself. The large crowd witnessed many lighted floats, fire trucks with lights flashing, old cars, several dignitaries, and of course all the youngsters grabbing up the candy being thrown from the folks in the floats! The parade made it’s way to the West Sabine HS gym where many enjoyed the many Christmas carols played during the Winter Concert put on by the Tiger Band.
