Conflict at the Outhouse

Body
While my eight-year-old brother Bill was “being comforted” in our Outhouse one day in 1941, I devised a fun plan to shock him. Behind the outhouse was a large patch of dry goat weeds--- (also known as 'yin yang huo' in Chinese medicine.) I grabbed a handfull of these bristly weeds and slipped up behind the outhouse. Then I raked Bill a couple of times and loudly hollered, “E-yahh!”

Did you notice?

Body
I was about to go back into the house from the front porch. Then, I noticed two things. My glider needed to be cleaned; and the legs on my wrought iron set were rusted. The table was clear, but both chairs had rust on their legs. This set had been something that I’d always wanted. My kids had given it to me making it even more valuable. I had to do something to stop this! In a humid climate like ours, rust can grow quickly. Then, in time, it would rust through the chair legs, and they would break.

Ponderings of a Concerned Citizen

Body
TikTok, not Twitter, is a Threat to Our Nation and Should Be Banned As Elon Musk begins his retooling of Twitter, political elites have bemoaned the take-over as a threat to free speech and democracy. Musk’s move to revitalize the once fledgling company has been heavily scrutinized by leftist media outlets as the creation of a misinformation and hate speech “vector”.

December…Epilogue To 2022 Or Prologue To 2023?

Body
Well, both, actually. Another December, another end to another year. I hope your 2022 was better than 2021, now we can work to make 2023 even better. So, off we go… December 1st-Clark Kents Birthday…if you have no idea who Clark Kent is, educate yourself. On the other hand, if you can’t tell the difference between a bird, a plane, or a flying super hero with his underwear on the wrong side of his pants, maybe you need a bit more education.

Breakfast with Santa at HVFD...

Body
2 ½ year old Daxton Daffron is not totally convinced that having breakfast with Santa was the right choice for this Saturday morning, but the pancakes he did enjoy. Lots of folks enjoyed a warm pancake breakfast with Santa at the HFD and let the kiddos visit with Santa. Santa’s firetruck was full of presents to hand out to the kiddos that came to visit, and his “HO – HO – HO” sure sounded a lot like HFC Fire Chief Glenn Chance!

Farmers Market Chili Cook-off...

Body
Boyd Bishop wins Peoples Choice ($75) and Judges Favorite ($100) prizes at Saturday mornings Farmers Market Chili Cook-Off. During the regular Farmers Market, contestants were preparing their chili for the contest. The voting process was: pay a $1 for a bowl and a spoon, then go get a helping of chili from each of the contestants. Refills were happily provided to help with the decision making process. Once you either got full or made your decision on who’s chili was the best, you simply left your empty bowl on that contestants table. So, I guess you might say Boyd Bishop won the Farmers Market Dirty Bowl Chili Cookoff!
