A few weeks ago TPW Game Warden Doug Williams got a midnight call from Sheriff Tom Maddox requesting his help in finding a suspect who was accused of shooting at and assaulting two individuals in the Toledo Beach area before fleeing into the nearby woods to escape. Sheriff Maddox knew that Officer Williams had a drone with FLIR capabilities(Forward Looking Infared), and of course Officer Williams responded.

Sabine County Chamber changing of the Guard

Sabine County Chamber of Commerce held their last meeting of the year Tuesday and had a changing of the guard. Jesse Watson has been the Chamber of Commerce President for the last two years and has done a spectacular job, and now he is handing the torch to the new Chamber President Rebecca Felts. Chamber VP Mick Leach is also turning over the reins of his position to the new Chamber VP Edith McCauley. Kristan Wood is also the new Chamber Marketing Manager. Other Board officers are Suzzie Gilliam – Secretary, Melissa Farris – Treasurer, and Cathy Eaves – Tourism. There are three new board members, Tom “Shorty” Warren, Stephen English, and Curtis Buckner. Jesse and Mick will still be helping at the Chamber and we thank them for all their great service to the community. Welcome, and congratulations to all the new Chamber leadership.

Spreading Christmas Cheer...

West Sabine first and second graders traveled to Legacies Nursing Home in Hemphill. They performed Christmas carols and read Christmas stories to the residents and staff. Before leaving the students wished them a Merry Christmas along with giving gifts for each resident including blankets and snacks. The residents at Hemphill Care Center also received gifts, blankets and snacks.

Out of terror...

Last week, Only Believe Ministries and The Refuge Church of Milam hosted Kamal Saleem author of “The Blood of Lambs” with Koome Ministries. Saleem was raised in Lebanon as a child soldier who was recruited into the Muslim Brotherhood at age 7. He originally came to the US in order to infiltrate and attack the culture from the inside. Love and Jesus Christ intervened and captivated his heart. The ex jihadist shared his testimony as well as an insider’s look at the war on terrorism. Comm. Court takes care of end of year business

After opening with the prayer and pledge to the flag, and approval of the minutes, Sabine County Commissioners Court started tidying up for end of year needs with some line item budget movements. The Court voted to transfer funds from Road & Bridge to Special 1 by moving $250 into that account for maintenance needs for the county grade-all. Next, the Court approved moving existing left over funds of the Sheriff’s Department budget so it can be used for purchase of cameras for vehicles, provided those fuds still exist at time of ordering those cameras. There were no Budget Amendments.

December 13, 2022 On the 81st anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, the event that led America into World War II, there were only six of the dwindling number of survivors were able to attend the events commerating the attack. All six of the survivors in attendance were over 100 years old.

Arthur Temple Public Library Open House 2022...

For more than 30 years the Arthur Temple Sr. Memorial Library has held an annual Open House to highlight the contents and services offered, and to introduce the employees and volunteers who take care of the library. On Friday, December 9th, the Temple Library held the 2022 Open House, reminding regular patrons and introducing first time visitors to services such as fax, document copying, scanning, internet access, meeting rooms, childrens programs, e-books, audio books, print books, magazines, newspapers, and others.
