On March 29th, Officer Matt Clark competed in the 2023 Texas Truck Challenge. Officer Clark placed 1st overall in the Texas DPS Region 6 Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) division and will go on to compete at the state challenge in June. The winner of the state competition will go on to compete in the North American Inspectors Championship (NAIC). Matt Clark is a 2002 Hemphill High graduate and the son of Jimmy and Susie Clark, brother to Stacy and uncle to Harper. Congrats, Matt!

Has the “Good News” become old news?

Extra, Extra... read all about it! Holy Week is here and as a Christ follower, I want to SHOUT the good news of the Gospel from the roof tops. And this week, from Palm Sunday to Resurrection Day, around the world, even other cultures and non-believers allow us our faith, our remembering and commemorating. The pageantry, the choral cantatas, even the mainstream world of entertainment television and movies put “religious” films or programming in the rotation.

Hemphill City Chasing Grants

The Hemphill City Hall opened it’s March meeting on the evening of the 21st with a prayer and pledges to the flags, followed by approving the consent agenda. The consent agenda included the approval of the last meetings minutes, approving the accounts payable check register, and the gas power adjustment of $0.073 per ccf for March 2023 (Gas PCA is negative), and the electric power cost adjustment of $0.04778 per kwh for March 2023.

May 6 election cancelled by PCC

The Pineland City Council met in regular session on March 23 with a light agenda in tow. After the accounts payable were read into the minutes Timothy Johns talked to the council about a housing project. He wanted to build duplexes of tiny houses(800 sq.ft.)on a lot from Cherry St. to Pine St. The council seemed extremely enthusiastic about said proposed project, giving Johns the go ahead to file the necessary paperwork to get the project rolling.

One hundred years ago this week, Lamar University in Beaumont originated as South Park Junior College when the Beaumont ISD superintendent sought to develop plans for a junior college. Later that year, the institution’s doors opened, and the name was changed to Lamar College and later Lamar University. I’m a proud alumnus of Lamar University!
