Hemphill Little Theatre delivered five powerful performances of Steel Magnolias directed by Leanne Hinkle with a female-centered cast sharing friendship, love, and loss in a home-based salon in nearby Natchitoches, Louisiana. Steel Magnolias is best known as the 1989 starstudded movie, but the stage is where the story was first brought to life.

Community Fellowship church, known as the 'Coin church' gathers coins all year long to award scholarships to 2 students from Hemphill High school. The first scholarship award has been presented to Jason 'Jace' Courville in the amount of $5,000.00. Congregations to Jason. Back in the dark ages when I was in high school there was an unwritten rule that the young females lived by. I assume it was not written down as I never actually saw it in print. This rule was that the young girls never, under any circumstances, asked a boy for a date.
