My summer stays stacked with work and activities. If I don't get that vacation in asap, it might not happen. Two days before school ended, I saw an opening on Texas Caribbean's MV Fling. Before it could fill, I took the plunge and bought my 4day, 3-night adventure aboard the 30-person live-aboard. Never mind that I hadn't dived in over a decade, it's like riding a bike, right?

My great grand daughter, Addy, walked over to me and whispered something. I didn’t understand. So, I asked her to repeat it. The last time she was here, she’d admired a small, pink pillow. When she asked me for it, I gave it to her. Now, her mom sat across the room. It was obvious that she was afraid her mom would say no, to whatever her request might be.

I wish that you could have met this giant of a man, a fellow worker at Allstate Insurance Company in Houston, Texas. In the mid 1960s, I was working as an insurance underwriter for Allstate. In case you are not familiar with the term “underwriter”, let me explain. Every insurance company has these “risk evaluators” who examine applications for insurance submitted by their agents. They can approve or reject applications for coverage. In so doing, they often make people angry.

My First Sermon

I have told “my first sermon” story for my years now, but realized last week that I had almost forgotten my real “first sermon”.. I didn’t preach it at Central Baptist Church in 1950 (a I have claimed) but preached it at the Mill Pond in Shelbyville, Texas. I had the year right but not the place.

Tatoos on this Town...

As many of you know, there are many working to restore and beautify Hemphill. Students from Hemphill HighArt Department have partnered with our community to release a series of murales that will be hung around the square and downtown. This piece is the final mural for the year and symbolizes our world-famous NASA Museum, fishing on Toledo Bend, and our historic and breathtaking courthouse. The student artist that worked on this project include: Carleigh Patterson, Emily Shoemaker, Raelee Conn, Brittlyn Jackson, Laillian Peden, Lily McGee, Emily Villagrana, Haven Bragg, Amber Wynne, Daisy Flores, Bailey Alonzo, Jalynn Reynolds, Haven Dickerson and Brailey Wallace.
