Legacy Garden...

Members of the Hemphill and 6 Mile Garden Clubs made an addition to the outdoor recreation area of Legacy Nursing and Rehabilitation with the placement of 'Billy the Bass' and a succulent garden. Legacy residents Joy Brown, Bill Enner, and Karen Glover joined Garden Club members Fran Hulsey, Janis Speights, Kathy Tanner, and Paula Copty.

Hemphill recognizes Top 2023 Graduates

Hemphill High School held their 2023 commencment exercises last weekend and honored the Top 10 percent of students in their graduating class. Coming in as Valedictorian, Remington Travis Ross, son of George Wyman and Tessa Jewel Ross of Milam and brother to Koltin and Wesley. Remi’s grandparents are George Ross and wife Lois of Livingston, Linda Dickson and husband Joe of League City and Travis and Brenda Switzer of Hemphill. He is an active member of The Refuge and his hobbies include hunting and fishing, traveling, acting and baseball. Remi plans to attend Texas A&M to obtain a masters degree in business with a minor in marketing.

EMS week...

A community health fair was held on Thursday, May 25th at the Sabine County Hospital in honor of EMS Week where lots of interested people, like the Woods family pictured above, got the opportunity to participate and learn how CPR practices and application of tourniquets work to help save lives until EMS units can arrive. Several other vendors had also set up booths with information on everything from hospice to home health care needs. It was a fun day of learning for kids and adults alike.

Senate Bill 2627 and House Bill 5

AUSTIN – Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick issued this statement today following the Texas House and Texas Senate’s adoption of the conference committee reports for Senate Bill 2627 and House Bill 5, both by Sen. Charles Schwertner, R-Georgetown. SB 2627 and HB 5 will now be sent to Gov. Greg Abbott: “After Winter Storm Uri, it was clear for all to see that Texas needed more reliable dispatchable power because renewable energy sources failed to keep the lights on for millions of Texans. As I traveled rural Texas last fall, I promised Texans that I would not leave Austin without legislation that would fix the Texas power grid once and for all.

Trauma Awarness month...

In honor of Trauma Awareness Month, Sabine County Hospital would like to announce our 2023 Trauma Nurse Excellence Award winner, DeAnna Walston, RN! This award represents the excellence that the nurse exemplifies in the knowledge, care, documentation, and skills in the care of trauma patients. DeAnna has been a nurse for 19 years, 8 of those years as an LPN/LVN and 11 as an RN. She has been with us for 7 years and holds an Associate Degree in Nursing. She has worked as many shifts as she possibly could over the years and is always eager to help. Not only does she put in many hours here at SCH, she also has other jobs she is dedicated to. DeAnna holds certifications for Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). She is very well deserving of this award, which was voted on by her peers. In recognition of this award, DeAnna will receive Leatherman Trauma Shears and an engraved plaque. We are happy to have DeAnna as part of our trauma team here at Sabine County Hospital. Please join us in congratulating DeAnna on this achievement!
