June 1 began terms for State Leadership of the Texas Association of School Administrators. Sabine County is blessed to maintain state leadership on the Executive Board for the next two years in the Region 7 seat with Dr. Carnelius Gilder. Also, Region 7's Chris Moran from Whitehouse will serve as the TASA Vice President. LaTonya Goffney, Aldine ISD superintendent, begins her term as TASA president, while Tomball ISD Superintendent Martha Salazar-Zamora becomes president-elect.

Memorial Wreath...

Thursday morning, Sabine County Veterans Service Officer Shorty Warren joined members of the Hemphill and 6 Mile Garden Clubs on location of the plaque marking the 'Blue Star Memorial Highway' placing a wreath in recognition of Memorial Day. The site, located on the west (Texas) end of the Pendleton Bridge, marks the location of one of the Sabine River crossings used for over 400 years. The plaque was jointly sponsored by Hemphill Garden Club, Texas Garden Clubs, Inc, Sabine County Commissioners Court, and TxDOT. Warren was joined by (l to r) Kathy Tanner, Paula Copty, Janet Pay, Nancy Vincent, Janis Speights, and Fran Hulsey (President, Hemphill Garden Club).

Another place to eat...

A new restaurant is about to open in Hemphill! Kimberly Bryan is about to open the Hitchin Post at the Old Feed Store near the Square in Hemphill featuring homestyle country cooking. Targeted opening date is either the 15th or the 19th of June, and they are presently looking to hire Cooks and Wait Staff. Food will be hand battered and freshly cooked, and the menu includes many items for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also plan to be open 7 days a week. They also run a similar restaurant on HWY 69 between Warren and Woodville. Congratulations Kimberly and we wish you the best of luck!

GP Recognizes employee with 40 years of service...

Georgia-Pacific recognizes Jennifer Hardy for more than 40 years of service to the wood products industry. It was in 1983 when Hardy began her career in Pineland at Georgia-Pacific’s Pineland Lumber Mill. Shortly after high school graduation, Hardy was hired as a receptionist but was quickly promoted to the plant manager’s administrative assistant. Today as a staff accountant, Hardy is not only responsible for general accounting tasks for the mill but continues to work closely with the mill’s plant manager and leadership team.
