Georgia-Pacific Cuts Ribbon on Largest Sawmill in the South

Whether producing particleboard, plywood, or lumber, Georgia-Pacific’s Pineland Lumber has been a prominent part of Sabine County and the city of Pineland since 1910. With the recent completion of a $120 million expansion, the mill is writing a new chapter in its history as it becomes the largest sawmill in the south.

Friday morning the Sabine County Sheriff's Dept. confirmed that Samantha Hill, former treasurer for Pendleton Harbor Volunteer Fire Department and also, treasurer for Hemphill Band Boosters, was in custody on four charges: Money Laundering >$2,500 + $30,000, Misappropriation Fiduciary and Financial Property, >$2,500 + $30,000, Theft of Property >$2,500 + $30,000 and Forgery of Financial Instrument. Her bond has been set at $80,000 (20K for each charge).

Happy Dad’s Day Everyday My joyful little neighbor turned three last week and Mr. Randy and I presented him with his own set of Picasso magnetic building tiles. I sat on the floor with Jamison as we opened his gift. His eyes were big and his shrieks quite loud as he touched each tile. He began to hold the colored squares and triangles to his eye and look towards the overhead light. Amazement at the view shone on his fair little face. We talked about the primary colors red and blue and yellow. We looked at one another through the translucent shapes and giggled at kaleidoscope colors that popped on our smiles.

Texas Land Commissioner and Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham, M.D. is proud to begin spotlighting the VLB's Voices of Veterans oral history program and the invaluable stories of Texas Veterans it has preserved. In this episode, we hear the story of Texas Ve t e r a n Mr. John Simmons Jr. of Corpus Christi. Mr. Simmons is a retired U.S. Navy Aircraft Mechanic who served for 20 years. During his time in service, Mr. Simmons completed three tours in Vietnam and served on the USS Kitty Hawk. He traveled across the world during his military career and his favorite plane to work on was the KA-3B Inflight Refueler.
