Walk to Remember...

Body
The Sabine County Chamber of Commerce and VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Post 10351 hosted a Walk to Remember celebration on Friday, May 24th, at the Pineland City Park where many people carried a fan bearing the names of the service members they wanted to remember while they waked 3 laps (1 mile} around the park walking path in remembrance. The service began with the building of the POW/MIA table, also known as the 'Missing Man' table, that is a solemn and symbolic tribute to honor military personnel who are prisoners of was (POW) or missing in action (MIA). Each item on the table carries significant meaning: The white table cloth signifies the purity of their intentions and the hope of their return; the empty chair symbolizes the missing service member; the red rose signifies the blood shed by those who are missing or imprisoned; the yellow ribbon represents the hope for their return; the lemon slice reminds us of their bitter fate; the salt represents the tears shed by families waiting for their loved ones; the bread plate and slice of bread represents the sustenance they cannot share; the inverted glass symbolizes their inability to toast with us; the candle represents the light of hope that guides them home; the American flag serves as a reminder of their service and sacrifice. This powerful display is a way to honor and remember those who have not returned from their military service.

Liberty Springs Scholarships...

Body
Trish Bevans and Pastor Gwen Coplen had the privilege of presenting two $500.00 scholarships on behalf of Liberty Springs last night. Cameron Allman will be attending A&M in the fall and Landon Clark will attend Universal Technical Institute in Houston. We know both these students will make us all very proud. I feel so blessed that our little church could bless two students this year. All praise and glory to God.

The VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Post 10351 hosted a solemn memorial service Monday for our fallen service members. The Service, led by incoming Post Commander Frank Torres, paid a solemn tribute to all of our fallen American service members who gave their lives for the freedoms we enjoy today, followed by the folding and presentation of the flag, a three gun volley and the playing of taps. Everyone enjoyed some snacks and refreshments following the ceremony.
