Hello readers! This issue of Point/Counterpoint may be that rare occasion where you see both of us actually agreeing. The question is has this current generation lost its sense of patriotism? The answer to this is an unequivocal hell yes! With a few exceptions today’s generation is more concerned with the little device in their hands entertaining them than actually loving their country.

Governor Greg Abbott celebrated Texas again adding jobs at a faster rate over the last 12 months than the nation as a whole following the release of May employment data. Texas also smashed all previous historic highs for total jobs, the number of Texans working, and the size of the Texas labor force. “Texas is where the future is building,” said Governor Abbott. “That is why Texas continues to grow jobs and outperform the nation in annual job growth. With America’s Best Business Climate, our strong and growing workforce, and an unwavering focus on investing for the future, we see more Texas businesses innovating and more hardworking Texans forging a path to prosperity. Texas is where today’s products are made and where tomorrow’s technologies are born. We will continue to lead the nation as we build a bigger, better Texas for decades to come.”

Governor Greg Abbott announced Monday that he directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to deploy Texas A&M Task Force 1 personnel to Ruidoso, New Mexico for wildfire search and rescue response support at the request of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

I was attending Baylor University in Waco, Texas, but my love lived a four-hour drive away in Hemphill, Texas. Every other weekend I drove my 1950 Chevrolet to East Texas to be with Clara, my future wife. I certainly wanted her family, all of it, to approve of my being grafted into their family by marriage.
