Rising Star...

Body
Congratulations to local singer and fiddle player, Luke Moody on a fabulous weekend at the Country Music Hall of Fame John Ritter Showcase. Moody qualified for the competition back in June with thirty others who made it thru to finals. When the dust settled, Luke walked away with the Fan Favorite award for the second year in a row and 2nd Runner up! We look forward to hearing more from this young talent as he continues honing his craft.

Pet Talk

Body
When taking your dog for a walk during the scorching summer heat, it may be tempting to allow your dog a few laps from the nearest drinking station in order to cool off. However, shared hydration sources can potentially have dire effects for your beloved furry friend.

Ribbon Cutting

Body
The Building Dedication and Ribbon Cutting for the West Sabine Leadership & Community Development Center took place last Tuesday in Pineland and was heavily attended. County Judge Daryl Melton gave the words of welcome and prayer, WSISD Superintendent Dr. Gilder gave the greeting and remarks prior to the Sabine County Chamber of Commerce and the WSISD Board of Trustees cutting the ribbon. T.A. Lane, Pineland Service Club President and City Councilman gave the Presentation of Lifetime Legacy honoring the legacy of Jack and Beverly Leath who has served the West Sabine Community diligently from 1969 to present day. From coaching, teaching, leading, volunteering to advising, lending a helping hand, giving a smile and showing the way, the Leath's have been wonderful mentors and developers of our community providing access to the many generations that they influenced. The Community is grateful for their servitude and kindness. The Importance of Education to Community was given by Deann Lee of Raise Your Hand Texas.

Point... Counterpoint

Body
Hello all you happy people! It’s that time of the week once again for Point/Counterpoint. The questions this week are 1.)What do you think about the false valor allegations against the current Democratic VP nominee Tim Walz, and 2.) Do you agree or disagree with the Olympic Committee banning Russia from the 2024 Olympic Games over the war in Ukraine. 1. There are many folks who either are currently serving or have served in the military with bravery and unmitigated pride(like my co-writer),so you can imagine upon hearing these allegations they made me physically ill. Allegedly Mr. Walz left his platoon in a bind before they were deployed to Iraq in 2005, choosing to abruptly retire and run for political office rather than fill out his commitment to the military. I noticed how conveniently the Harris/Walz campaign website completely scrubbed the portion of his bio discussing his rank(merely a coincidence, no doubt…).Now they’re scrambling, saying Walz “misspoke”(isn’t that called LYING if it were done knowingly?)about his rank and actually being in Iraq(he was deployed to Italy, which hasn’t been a war zone since 1945). If proven true, this is wanton cowardice at the highest levels, but it would also give Walz something in common with John Wayne: both of them never saw a millisecond of actual combat! If this is proven true, someone should be held accountable. Will they? With the track record of this “campaign” I wouldn’t hold my breath lest I turn into a Smurf.
