Texas Game Wardens’ Operation Dry Water Campaign Effective

Despite the landfall of Hurricane Beryl, Texas Game Wardens worked hard to keep Texans safe as they celebrated the Fourth of July on the water. Between July 4-6, 402 game wardens contacted 10,034 vessels, issued 1,326 citations and 1,794 warnings for various boating safety violations. Wardens filed 32 boating while intoxicated (BWI) charges and five driving while intoxicated (DWI) charges, two of which were drug related. Additionally, another 30 people were arrested for various other crimes.

Hurricane Beryl winds damage some crops, others benefit from rain

When Hurricane Beryl barreled into Texas, extreme winds caused the most damage to crops rather than the flooding often associated with a hurricane. In fact, the downgraded storm brought beneficial moisture to many counties, according to post-storm reports from Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service county agents.

The J. R, Huffman Library held its Summer Reading Program this past week and the kids loved it! ON Monday Gene Alvarez from UTMB Health, Southwest Texas Poison Center talked about poisonous snakes, on Thursday Gator Country brought a Ball Python, a Bearded Dragon, and a small Alligator to learn about, and on Friday the Texas A&M Forestry brought Smokey the Bear to discuss how Only You Can Prevent Forest Fires. It was a week the kids won't soon forget!

Homeowners and renters in Anderson, Nacogdoches, Panola, Rusk and Sabine counties are now eligible for FEMA assistance after the severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding that occurred April 26 – June 5. Eligible applicants may qualify for serious needs assistance, basic home repairs, personal property losses and other eligible expenses related to storm damage. Previously, Texans in Austin, Bell, Calhoun, Collin, Cooke, Coryell, Dallas, Denton, Eastland, Ellis, Falls, Guadalupe, Hardin, Harris, Henderson, Hockley, Jasper, Jones, Kaufman, Lamar, Leon, Liberty, Montague, Montgomery, Navarro, Newton, Polk, San Jacinto, Smith, Terrell, Trinity, Tyler, Van Zandt, Walker and Waller counties were approved for assistance.
