Wreaths Across America

Body
Wreaths Across America event took place on Sunday at the Hemphill City Cemetery, as members of the VFW and American Legion (along with many helpers from the FFA, Hemphill Bass Club and thankful citizens) placed wreaths at the headstones of military veterans who have passed on. The service began with Vice-Commander of the VFW Post 10351 Curtis Buckner reciting solemn words expressing the reason for the wreaths and appreciation of the service of the veterans who have passed. Then a wreath was placed at the flag representing each branch of military service, followed by the placing of wreaths at the headstones of veterans located in the cemetery. Wreaths were also taken to several other cemeteries throughout the county.

Pet Talk

Body
Walking into your room to find a curled- up dog or cat resting within your opened suitcase can be heart-wrenching, to say the least. With the winter chill sweeping in, a holiday trip may be on the horizon, leading owners to consider whether they should invite their furry friends to join in on the fun.

CALL ME A TAXI

Body
The comedian Don Rickles used to have a joke – “Call me a taxi. OK, you are a taxi..” It was usually good for a few laughs. However, if you are in need of a taxi around these parts you are out of luck. All this reminds me of an incident that happened back in 1987 to my wife, Clara.

La Posada Twenty-one year ago, I did not know what Las Posadas were, but holding my threeyear- old’s hand while going door to door asking if there’s “room at the inn” seemed like a fun blend of Halloween and Christmas. I was determined to soak up all the culture I could while living in San Miguel de Allende.
