Judy Lynn Davis

Judy Lynn Davis, 74, of Lufkin, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023 at her residence. She was born in Rosevine, on October 16, 1948, to Morgan Tilas Wright and Willie Marie Shuler Wright. She was a long time resident of Sabine County before moving with her husband, Roy, to Lufkin in 1967. There in Lufkin, she worked as a legal assistant for the law firm of Jimmy Cassels for many years. She was a talented musician who grew up singing and playing piano in church. As a member of Rosevine Church of God, she continued that tradition.

Bruce Dewayne Jones

Bruce Dewayne Jones, 62, of Pineland, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at home surrounded by his loved ones. Bruce was born on November 23, 1960 in Hemphill, to William Earl Jones and Virgie Rae Lord Jones. Bruce lived all his life in Sabine County. He worked for 40 years at the mill in Pineland as a hydraulic tech. Bruce enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing with his friends and family especially with his best friends Junior and his dog Gizmo.

Hazel Bragg Hoffman McNaughten, 100, of Hemphill, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Legacies Nursing and Rehab in Hemphill. Shewas born on January 13, 1922 in Sabine County, to Henry Cary Bragg and Vursey Burkhalter Bragg. A quiet and gentle lady with a funny and quick wit to those who knew her well. She loved her garden and flowers and keeping the best kept home and yard in the county. She is survived by a family that dearly loves her; Daughters, Vickie Burcia and Lavina Gibson; granddaughters, April Loggins and husband, Chuck and Kim Walker; grandsons, David Brucia and wife, Evette, Byron Brucia and wife, Melissa, and Charles Gibson; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.

Sandra Kay Scallan

Sandra Kay Scallan, 65, of Broaddus, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2023 at her residence. She was born on February 28, 1957 in Orange, to Burbon Monroe Burns and Patricia LaNell Walker Burns. She was a loving housewife mother and grandmother who loved to spend time with her family and grandchildren. She also enjoyed hunting and fishing. She is survived by her husband, Adam Scallan, Sr. of Broaddus; sons, Adam Joseph Scallan, Jr. and Shane Joseph Scallan and wife, Ashley- both of Broaddus; brother, James Burns of Broaddus; grandchildren, Christian Joseph Scallan and Lhane Joseph Scallan; niece, Sheryl Stevens and husband, Tony; and nephew, Ray Brown and wife, Racheal; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Lilly Rayne Godeaux

Lilly Rayne Godeaux, the beautiful and beloved daughter of Bryan Godeaux and Sara Michelle Wilson Childress, passed away unexpectedly Monday, January 9, 2023 in Nacogdoches, at the age of 13. She came into this world on July 7, 2009 in Leesville, LA. She spent all of her life in the Sabine County area where she was an active student at West Sabine ISD. Among her school accomplishments, she was a member of the student council, on the A & B Honor Roll and participated in UIL. She also ran track and cross country and was a drummer in the WSHS Band.

Margaret Ellen James

Margaret Ellen James, 84, went to be with her Lord and Savior on the 30th of December 2022. Margaret was born on September 22, 1938, to John and Nancy Cannon in Edna, Texas. Shortly after her birth her father moved the family to Hitchcock, Texas. While in Hitchcock she met the love of her life, Melvin W. James Sr. They got married in 1960 and spent most of their life in the Galveston County area. During their retirement years they settled in Hemphill, Texas to live on Lake Toledo Bend. She was a faithful member of the Community Fellowship Church in Hemphill, Texas. Margaret loved to cook and she used this blessing in serving others in so many ways. She loved to sew and was an amazing seamstress. Margaret enjoyed traveling and camping while seeing all the beautiful places God made. Above all she was a prayer warrior and used this gift in fulfilling God’s desire to lift others up.

A graveside service for Sandra Kaye Woods Vanover, 66, of Nacogdoches was held, January 5, 2023 at Fairview Cemetery in Nacogdoches County. The committal service was under the direction of Starr Funeral Home, with Bro. Floyd Wright officiating. Sandy, as she was known by her loved ones, passed away at her residence on Tuesday, January 3rd. She was born in San Augustine, on March 27, 1956 to Oren and Charlie Faye Clark Woods. Sandy grew up on the Woods Family Homestead and graduated from West Sabine High School and Stephen F. Austin State University. She was a successful Certified Public Accountant and businesswoman. She enjoyed traveling, spending time on the Bolivar Peninsula, and being with her friends and family.

Dixie Alice Scott

Dixie Alice Scott, 84, of Hemphill, passed away Sunday, January 1, in Sabine County Hospital. She was born November 18, 1938 in DeSoto, WI to Arlen David Witcraft and Muriel Abiah Gordon Witcraft. She married her first husband, Charles Tyler, in 1957 and they had three children before his death. In 1973, she married Earl Scott. They moved to Victory, WI in 1978 and became owner/operators of Scott's S&T Sports Land.
