Michael Howard Stewart

Michael Howard Stewart, aged 71, of Hemphill, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, in Conroe. Born on March 28, 1953, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, he was the son of Alfred Clyde Stewart, Jr. and Virginia Lee Bailey Stewart. Michael spent his early life in Oklahoma before making Texas his long-term home. A proud veteran, Michael served in the Navy during the Vietnam War, a period that shaped much of his later life and values. After his military service, he dedicated many years to servicing airplanes at Hobby Airport.

Bonnie Lynn Rach

Bonnie Lynn Rach, born on June 21, 1921, in Orange, to Joseph Guidry and Rosa Hollier Guidry, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2024, at the age of 103 at Legacies Nursing and Rehab in Hemphill. She was a longtime resident of Hemphill, having resided here since 2008. Bonnie, a spirited and witty soul, touched the lives of many with her sassy one-liners and bubbly personality. She made an impact on everyone she met. Bonnie's early education was completed at Stark High School in Orange. She devoted much of her life to being a loving wife, mother, and homemaker, cherishing the time spent with her family. She was a faithful member of the Rayburn Methodist Church. Over the years she had been a member of the Bengal Guards Drum Corp. Her musical talents extended to being a member of a ukulele group and playing the dulcimer. She was also a proud veteran of the Red Cross during World War II.

David Ray Whitmire

David Ray 'Bull' Whitmire, 62, of Hemphill, passed away on July 5, 2024, in Nacogdoches. Born on August 3, 1961, in Hemphill, to Cleo Whitmire and Clara Jones Whitmire. He was a cherished member of the community and a dedicated paramedic for over 25 years. David was a graduate of Hemphill High School earning the nickname, 'Bull' during his time playing Football. He began his career at Temple in Pineland, until his passion for helping others led him to a fulfilling career as a paramedic, where he devoted himself to service and care. An outdoorsman at heart, David enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and gardening, sharing these joys with family and friends.

A celebration of Bob Sealy's extraordinary life will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Jasper. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 PM on Monday, July 8, 2024, at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper. Bob, age 75 of Sam Rayburn, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, in Tyler. A lifelong resident of Rayburn Country, Bob, along with his wife Donna, was the beloved owner and operator of Sealy Outdoors for over 48 years. Prior to Sealy Outdoors, Bob served his community as the owner of Pineypoint Grocery at Sam Rayburn and as a former real estate sales manager.

Arthur Guy Smith went to be with Jesus on Saturday, July 6, 2024 in Lake Jackson, at the age of 87. He was born on January 19, 1937 in Bronson, where he spent his childhood and most of his adult life, then moved to Lake Jackson in 2014. He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Ola Mae Smith, his parents, John F. & Martha Smith, and his siblings Sam, Mary, Hazel, Otis, Gail, Billy, E.C. & Leonard. He is survived by his son, Dennis Smith (Melinda) of Pittsburg, and his daughter Kathy Pickering (Greg) of Lake Jackson, his grandchildren, Michael Pickering (Noelle) of Georgetown, Jeffrey Pickering (Chelsea) of Washington, DC, and Kathryn Smith of Ithaca, New York, and his great grandchildren Haddon, Liam, Lincoln, Madelyn, and Graham, and his brother Bob of Port LaVaca.

Cheryl graduated from South Houston High School in 1987 and later achieved both her bachelor's and master’s degrees while working fulltime. Her academic dedication paved the way for a successful career. Cheryl was a respected HR Professional, initially with Brown and Root and KBR, before she found her passion in the Oil Field Drilling Business as a Regional HR Manager.

Priscilla was born on December 23, 1950, in Cuba, to Heriberto and Carmen Delateja. She graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Hygiene from Baylor University and dedicated her career to serving the community of Hemphill, alongside her husband, Dr. Donald Powell.

Jerry Don Fowle

Jerry Don Fowle, 77, of Hemphill, passed away June 24, 2024. A celebration of his life will be held Friday, July 12th at 11 am at Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill. Jerry was born in Beaumont and moved around frequently throughout his childhood. He enlisted in the US Army in 1964, serving in Germany until 1967. After his honorable discharge, he settled in Vidor where he met and married Velda in 1968. They raised their daughters, Amanda and Mary there.

Billy Lee Griffin-Miller was born June 24, 2024, and passed away six hours later in San Augustine.

Survivors include his mother, Kellie Griffin; father, Holby Miller; brothers, Tuff Griffin and Carter Miller; grandparents, Billy and Kim Griffin and Jamee Miller and Tim Stewart; and great-grandparents, Eileen Rigsby, Carrie Jean Griffin, Steve Miller, and Pam and Doug Hardy.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Burtis Ray Griffin and David and Peggy Whitton; aunt, Kellee Horn; and cousins, Easton Horn and Ryder Griffin.
