James Hughes “Jimmy” Bynum, 81, of Hemphill, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025, in Hemphill. Born on April 8, 1944, in Henderson, Jimmy was the son of R. Q. Bynum and Lucille Hughes Bynum. He spent the last 17 years living in Sabine County after previously residing in Nederland. Jimmy dedicated his professional life to education as a vocational teacher for Port Neches-Groves Independent School District. He earned a Master’s Degree and was known for his dedication to his students and his craft. Following his retirement from teaching, he continued to serve his community by operating his own air conditioning business.

Anne Lois Glawson Hughes, 91, of Reeds Spring, Missouri, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2025, in Branson West, Missouri. Born on August 23, 1933, in Orange, Anne was the daughter of Clifford Glawson and Hallie Peery Glawson. She spent many years in Pineland, where she was a devoted member of the Pineland Church of Christ. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker, Anne dedicated her life to caring for her family and nurturing those around her.

Survived by his two daughters, Briana Leach of Houston, and Brittany Bluford of Houston; siblings R.C. Bluford (Gloria) of Beaumont, Exie Sublett of Liberty, Shirley Balloon (Walter) of Forney, Acy Bluford Jr.

Albert Lee Taylor, age 77, of San Augustine, departed this physical life on April 30, 2025, at Summit Nursing and Rehab in San Augustine. Mr. Taylor was born October 04, 1947. Survived by his one daughter, Teffonee Taylor Fowler (Michael) of Dallas; two grandchildren; brother Curtis Earl Barnes of San Augustine; four sisters, Lucille Taylor of Houston, Betty Taylor of Houston, Lavern Dade of San Augustine, and Sherry Harrison (Kenny) of Fort Washington, MD; and God Son, Michael Taylor (Teresa) of Germany. As well as a host niece, nephews, of other relatives and friends.

Miss Georgia Louise Payne, age 78, of Nacogdoches, departed this physical life on April 25, 2025, at Memorial Hermann In the Woodlands in Houston. Miss Georgia Louise Payne was born August 17,1946. Survived by her three sons, Derick Payne (Banesia) of Nacogdoches, Gregory Payne of Nacogdoches, and Christopher Payne of Nacogdoches; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother Elder Cleveland Payne of Lufkin; sister Bobbie Barnes of San Augustine. As well as a host niece, nephews, of other relatives and friends.

Suellen Grace Abbott

Suellen Grace Abbott, 83, of Hemphill, Texas, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Sabine County Hospital. Born on December 6, 1941, in Port Arthur, Texas, Suellen was the only child of Leon C. Hammock and Bernece Ball Hammock. She was a lifelong resident of Sabine County and a proud graduate of Hemphill High School, where she was an active member of the Hornet Band, serving as drum major and twirler. Suellen dedicated 49 years to Hemphill ISD as a beloved firstgrade and later music teacher. Her deep love for the school community inspired her to bring a young live oak tree from South Louisiana to be planted on campus, creating a shaded place for children to play. That tree still stands today on the campus in front of the school, providing the job that she intended.
