Roberta “Robyn” Torbett

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roberta “Robyn” Torbett, who went to be with the Lord on May 23, 2025, at the age of 88, in Lufkin. Robyn was a beloved longtime resident of Hemphill, where she found great joy and peace spending time on the waters of Toledo Bend and worshiping faithfully each Sunday at Fairdale Baptist Church.

He is survived by his children, Joseph Cooper (Demetria) of Pineland, LaJandra Miller of Baytown, Darrius Jones of San Augustine, JoCorrion Miller of Lufkin, and Jolandria Miller of Lufkin; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; siblings Thomas J Miller (Frantoist) of Dallas, Willie T. Tanner of San Augustine, W. T. Tanner (Quita Bratchett) of San Augustine, Ella Louis Brown (James) of Hemphill, Mary Hudson of San Augustine, Linda Hooper (Jerry) of Center, and Verna Lee Tanner of San Augustine. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Terry Lorenzo Watts, age 58, of Lufkin, departed this physical life on May 15, 2025, at his residence in Lufkin. Mr. Watts was born October 18, 1966. He is survived by his five daughters Gracelyn Trimble Hillman (Marcus) of Italy. LaTerrica McCall (Craig) of Killeen, Imani Bias of Lake Charles, LA, LaTerrian Watts of Palestine, and Concia Garrett Douglas (Theodore) of Lufkin; six grandchildren; Mother Dorothy Clay Watts of San Augustine; two sisters, Kimberly Pettigrew (Travelle) of Fort Worth, and Renee Porter of San Augustine; two brothers Steve Watts (Astrin) of Center, and Michael Porter of San Augustine. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

James Hughes Bynum

James Hughes “Jimmy” Bynum, 81, of Hemphill, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025, in Hemphill. Born on April 8, 1944, in Henderson, Jimmy was the son of R. Q. Bynum and Lucille Hughes Bynum. He spent the last 17 years living in Sabine County after previously residing in Nederland. Jimmy dedicated his professional life to education as a vocational teacher for Port Neches-Groves Independent School District. He earned a Master’s Degree and was known for his dedication to his students and his craft. Following his retirement from teaching, he continued to serve his community by operating his own air conditioning business.

Anne Lois Glawson Hughes, 91, of Reeds Spring, Missouri, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2025, in Branson West, Missouri. Born on August 23, 1933, in Orange, Anne was the daughter of Clifford Glawson and Hallie Peery Glawson. She spent many years in Pineland, where she was a devoted member of the Pineland Church of Christ. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker, Anne dedicated her life to caring for her family and nurturing those around her.
