Priscilla Delateja Powell, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away on June 26, 2024, in Hemphill, at the age of 73. Priscilla was born on December 23, 1950, in Cuba, to Heriberto and Carmen Delateja. She graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Hygiene from Baylor University and dedicated her career to serving the community of Hemphill, alongside her husband, Dr. Donald Powell.
Maurice Daniel, Jr., born on November 24, 1958, in San Augustine, to Maurice Daniel, Jr. and Margie Nora Clark Daniel. He passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at the age of 65 in Jasper. He was a lifelong resident of Sabine County, deeply rooted in the community and the natural lifestyle it offered.
Jerry Don Fowle, 77, of Hemphill, passed away June 24, 2024. A celebration of his life will be held Friday, July 12th at 11 am at Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill. Jerry was born in Beaumont and moved around frequently throughout his childhood. He enlisted in the US Army in 1964, serving in Germany until 1967. After his honorable discharge, he settled in Vidor where he met and married Velda in 1968. They raised their daughters, Amanda and Mary there.
Billy Lee Griffin-Miller was born June 24, 2024, and passed away six hours later in San Augustine.
Survivors include his mother, Kellie Griffin; father, Holby Miller; brothers, Tuff Griffin and Carter Miller; grandparents, Billy and Kim Griffin and Jamee Miller and Tim Stewart; and great-grandparents, Eileen Rigsby, Carrie Jean Griffin, Steve Miller, and Pam and Doug Hardy.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Burtis Ray Griffin and David and Peggy Whitton; aunt, Kellee Horn; and cousins, Easton Horn and Ryder Griffin.
Kortlyn Nikole Bennett, aged 18, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at her residence in Hemphill. Born on January 27, 2006, in Galveston, she was the cherished daughter of Darren Clinton Bennett and Janie Cheree Adkins. Kortlyn found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was happiest when surrounded by her loving family, listening to their stories and sharing moments together. Kortlyn enjoyed attending various sporting events, reveling in the energetic atmosphere.
Brenda Luker Breshears, 80, of Pollok, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Christus Mother Francis Hospital in Jacksonville. Brenda was born December 18, 1943, in Hot Springs, Arkansas to Jack C. and Pauline Anderson Luker. She worked several different jobs, but her main one was as an administrative assistant at Weyerhauser Company in Arkansas. She retired once she met her husband, Lonnie, and moved to Austin. She loved fishing, shopping, traveling, and gardening. She also loved to put puzzles together, glue them, and frame them to give as gifts.
