Yvonne Marie Ross, mother to Shirley, Velma and Jessie, passed away on October 18th, 2024, after a battle with Alzheimer's disease. Her final moments were spent peacefully at the Freedom House, Blue Skies of Texa s, in San Antonio , surr ounded by family and friends. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life not the sadness of her passing. Yvonne was born on 20 February 1938, in Washington, D.C. to Sponcella and Preston Carpenter. She was the oldest of sixteen children. Ten boys and 6 girls; in order, Yvonne, Lois, Preston Jr, Jackie, Doris, Lee, Jimmy, Charlie, Tommy, Jeffrey, Patsy, Carolannn, Donnie, Michael, Ricky and Dwayne.

Alice Ann (Goodman) Swenson, 65, of Hemphill passed away October 5, 2024, at Harbor Hospice House in Jasper. She was born January 23, 1959, in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, to parents Sudie Opal (Powell) and Thomas Wayne Goodman.

Raymond Lofton Jr., 59, of Buna passed away Sunday, October 20, 2024.

Born April 17, 1965, in San Augustine County, to parents Lillian (Von Heuvel) and Raymond Lofton Sr., he grew up in Broaddus. Following his graduation from Broaddus High School in 1983, he served his country in the U.S. Army and received an associate’s degree from Angelina College.

Cary Charles (Pete) Gray III, age 71, of Hemphill passed away on October 8, 2024. Cary Charles Gray, born November 19, 1952 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Cary Charles Gray Jr. and Jean Chambers Gray. After only two weeks of life, Pete's family moved to Port Arthur, where he lived a life in the fast lane! Pete traveled the world through his early adult life. Sending many postcards home to his Momma and Daddy of his adventures. Pete loved music, attending many concerts with his life long friends Clifford, Kyle, and Robert.

Lois Elaine Galloway passed away in her sleep at Legacies Nursing Home in Hemphill, on October 3, 2024. She had been a resident of Legacies for over three years. Elaine was born on June 20, 1948, in Port Arthur, to Fern Galloway and Lois Brown Galloway. She grew up in Groves and graduated from Port Neches-Groves High School. She then studied commercial art at Lamar University. Elaine was employed as a telephone switchboard operator and supervisor at Texas Children’s Hospital, Park Place Hospital in Port Arthur and then at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur.

Gary Mark Painton, 78, passed away on October 2, 2024, in Shrevepo rt, Louisiana. Born on May 11, 1946, in Port Arthur, to Clifford Painton and Edith McCutchen, Gary lived a life marked by dedication to his community and country. Gary served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, showcasing his patriotism and bravery. After his military service, he became an inspector for the FAA until his retirement. After moving to Hemphill, he worked as a dispatcher for the Sabine County Sheriff's Department.

Allison Cleveland Haley, Jr., affect ionately known as A. C., passed away on September 19, 2024, at the age of 64 while traveling through South Dakota on his way to work in Montana. Born on October 28, 1959, in Vidor, A. C. was a true Texan at heart. He spent 33 years in Vidor before moving to California and eventually returning to Texas, where he resided in Brookeland for the past eight years. A. C. was a dedicated Extractor Operator with John Travis Hydro-Extractors, a role that took him across the United States and beyond. Outside of work, he cherished fishing, attending NASCAR and dirt track races, and watching baseball games. He always cheered for his favorite teams: LSU, the Cincinnati Bengals, the San Francisco Giants, and the Seattle Mariners.

A Celebration of Logan “LoLo” Wane Parsons’ Life, age 32, of Pineland, will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 6, 2024 at Harvest Church in Jasper. Logan passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston, surrounded by his loving family. A former resident of Kountze, and current Sabine County resident, Logan was a barber and owned LoLo’s Barber Shop in Hemphill. He loved cutting hair, music, comedy shows, spending time with his family and he loved to BBQ – he was a Grill Master. He loved spending time with his family, but most of all he loved spending time with his son, Bryden.
