Clyde “Leroy” Cooper

Clyde “Leroy” Cooper, age 82, of Broaddus, passed away at his home on March 9, 2024. He left this earth peacefully in the arms of his loving wife, Verna, and daughters, Chris and Trema. Leroy, the youngest of four children, was born on October 22, 1941, in DeQuincy, Louisiana, to the late C.H. Cooper and the late Lois Edwards Cooper. He served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army from 1960 to 1963. Following his honorable discharge from the service, Leroy’s earliest employment was as a collector for a finance company.

Dempsey Lynn McClelland

Dempsey Lynn McClelland, 70, of Bronson, passed away on March 4, 2024, in Tyler. He was born on December 17, 1953, in Nacogdoches, to Dempsey Daniel McClelland and Lougena Jones McClelland. Lynn was a lifetime resident of Bronson, and worked in construction as a Crane Operator for many years. In his free time, Lynn loved working in his yard, keeping everything neat and clean. He enjoyed mowing and gardening, tending to flowers, watching birds, and his pine trees. He also had a passion for fishing and hunting, motorcycles, cars, and especially cherished his '81 Corvette.

Charles Edward Harvey

Charles Edward Harvey, Sr., 78, of Carthage, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024. He was born on February 2, 1946, in Burkeville, to parents, Lamar and Irene Opal Harvey. Charles was a hard-working individual who never met a stranger and was known for his generous nature. He worked as a Truck Driver for Overland Freight Frontier Trucking, traveling all over the United States. In his free time, Charles loved spending time with his family and grandkids, as well as his beloved dog, Fat-Fat. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, pursuing his passion for the outdoors.

Tommy Joe 'Cuz' Patterson, 74, of Bronson, passed away Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Harbor Hospice in Jasper. Tommy was born November 28, 1949 in Batesville, Arkansas to Ewing Donnie Patterson and Elizabeth Josephine Burba Patterson. A native of Arkansas, he had lived in Sabine County for the past 46 years. He had served in the United States Army and loved his country. He is survived by his daughter, Lora Ann Riggs of Cave City, AR; brother, Steve Wilson and wife, Billie Marie, of Pineland; friend, Dianna Medley of Bronson; sisters, Ida Mae Milligan of Cave City, AR, Betty Best of Memphis, TN, Billie Armstrong of Thida, AR, Peggy Dodd of Batesville, AR and Jimmie Pettit, also of Batesville; and grandson, Jerry Riggs, Jr..

Margaret Laurinda Pinney

Margaret Laurinda Pinney, 72, of Hemphill, passed away on March 1, 2024. She was born on June 2, 1951, in Kingsport, Tennessee, to the late Shepherd Matthew Pinney, Sr. and Bertha Pauline Mann Thompson. Margaret resided in Sabine County since 2020 and previously in Cheyenne, WY from 1979 to 2020. She served the military community through her dedicated work in retail with the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES).

Tina Kay Jones, 52, of Hemphill, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas. Tina was born August 8, 1971 in Hemphill, to Thomas Jefferson Jones and Mary Ruth Murphy Jones. Tina had resided in Abilene, for many years and had just recently returned to Sabine County where she was a resident of Hemphill Care Center. She loved spending time with her family. Tina was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Ruthie Jones; sister, Tara Huffman; aunt, Sue Nell Hogan; nephew, Joseph Hogan; and cousin, Billy Michael Hogan.

Melba Lucille Kirk

Melba Lucille Kirk, loving mother and sister, passed away on February 24, 2024, at the age of 66 in Lufkin. Melba was born on December 19, 1957, in Kirbyville, to Clyde E. Kirk, Sr. and Barbara Ann Sapp Kirk. She was a talented musician who loved playing the piano and she enjoyed gardening in her free time. Melba's career spanned various restaurants, where she shared her passion for food with others. Melba will be deeply missed by her daughter, Amy Ann Ayala of Hemphill; brother, Allen Ray Kirk of Richmond, ; sisters, Lisa Ann Brymer and husband David, and Julie Ellen Brymer and husband John, all of Hemphill; sister-in-law, Barbara Brymer of Hemphill. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Barbara Kirk, and her brother, Clyde Kirk Jr.

Ms. Debra Ann Johnson, age 64, of Glenn Heights departed this physical life on February 14, 2024, at Methodist Dallas Medical in Dallas. Ms. Johnson was born September 04, 1959. Debra is survived by mother Opal Barnes Pipkins of Glenn Heights, brother Patrick Johnson (Sheryl) of Desoto, and sister Sharon Johnson of Lufkin. As well as a host of other relatives and friends.
