That was the first indication that the first Save The Boobies event benefiting the Womens’ Crisis Center of East Texas and the Breast Cancer Foundation, to raise awareness of Domestic Violence and Breast Cancer was going to be a success. By the time the first number of the first of ten Bingo games has been called, over 125 people had made their contributions and received their Bingo card package and door prize ticket.

Immigration: Good Principles Ruined by Bad Practice

Body
The number of illegal US border crossings has officially surpassed 5 million persons since Biden took office. In August, 203,598 people were apprehended while attempting to cross the border, a number which is likely to rise when the official September numbers are released. The political fight over the border has recently seen a massive uptick. Governors Greg Abbott (TX) and Ron DeSantis (FL) have largely been responsible for the renewed interest in the border crisis. Their programs of transporting migrants to New York City, Chicago, Martha’s Vineyard, and Washington, D.C. have drawn high praise from the right and sharp rebuke from the left. By all media accounts, immigration is a highly polarizing political issue. Yet, according to a July 2022 Gallop poll, 70% of Americans believe immigration is beneficial to the country. This includes the majority of Democrats and a plurality of Republicans. Americans, in other words, are more united on the issue than partisan politicians and biased media would have us believe. So why all the fuss? The problem isn’t immigration in principle. The problem is immigration in practice.

Six Mile wreck sends one to the hospital...

Body
A two vehicle accident on Hwy. 87 in Six Mile Thursday morning sent one Sabine County resident to the hospital with unspecified injuries. She was the driver of the maroon Kia, south bound on Hwy. 87, when a white Mazda made a left turn in front of her. The collision set off airbags in both vehicles. The male driver of the Mazda did not wish to give his name, but said he was shook up but not hurt, and stated that his male passenger was also okay. Sabine County Sheriff’s Office was on the scene waiting for wreckers to arrive, and for DPS’ arrival to investigate the wreck, while Six Mile VFD was directing traffic through the area.

Neighborhood Effort Prevents Catastrophe...

Body
What began as a fire of unknown origin at an abandoned camp on June Street in the Toledo Beach subdivision turned into an all hands on deck effort that stopped smaller fires from spreading to neighboring houses. Numerous neighbors joined together to move nearby boats, trailers, portable propane tanks, and other property to save it from the growing house fire. Sparks from the fire started numerous fires nearby which were controlled by neighbors with garden hoses, buckets, and yard tools before a growing VFD presence was able to assist. The intense heat melted vinyl siding on a nearby mobile home, and one storage building on adjoining property was damaged. A very quick response by Fairmount VFD very well may have prevented a bad situation from becoming even worse. Very dry conditions and a steady north breeze had the fire moving toward three nearby, unoccupied residences. The abandoned camp, ownership yet to be confirmed, is a complete loss. The past week has seen multiplied efforts by all Sabine County Fire Departments, resulting in an emergency session of Commissioner’s Court and a County Wide Burn Ban issued by Judge Daryl Melton. Please don’t burn.
